My KHHS179LSS Kitchenaid microwave acts like it has no power. I have replaced the 250V 20A ceramic fuse behind the control panel. Other questions here indicate that there are three fuses total. What other fuses should I check? Where are they located? How do I get to them? Very specific directions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you Kevin. I can't really tell from the diagram where these parts are located. How do I access them? Do I have to remove the oven from the wall?

  • Anonymous Oct 15, 2011

Sorry to take so long to get to this, but I have remove the microwave from the wall, received the parts 25 & 29, opened the case, and have located the exhaust thermostat (the round button). How do I replace this thermostat? I don't see any screws or any way to remove the button and replace it. Also, where do I find the location of the other fuse? These things sure aren't made for easy servicing.... Thanks for your help!

Okay, I figured out how to replace the "button." That did not fix the problem, so I'm down to the thermal fuse. Where is it? How do I get to it? I can't see anything that looks like it. Many thanks.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

Check this image for your Microwave parts, part#25 and part#29 are two thermal fuse. If both of them are fine then it is the electronic control that is bad and needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Where is the fuse on KitchenAid model KHMS2050SSS microwave?

Fuses in microwaves are generally located behind the control panel. They can be close to the panel, midway back in the microwave case, or all the way back on the rear wall of the housing. Accessing the fuse will usually require removal of the entire outer case, and in some instances, the removal of additional interior panels. If you decide to do the job, be sure to replace the fuse with one exactly like the ceramic one you find in there. Glass fuses are not designed to handle the power that goes through these ceramic fuses.

Microwave KCMS 135H, makes loud sound followed by blown fuse.

either the high voltage diode, capacitor,or the magnetron tube is dead shorted, remove the leads off the magnetron tube, but check the diode and capacitor with an ohmmeter to check these for a shorted condition before trying a new fuse,if it builds high voltage then its the mag tube

My Maytag Microwave is blowing the 250v- 20a fuse behind the key panel on the black wire. It melted the fuse holder mounted to the main body of the unit. Any thoughts on why?

The magnetron is shorted, the keypad control board is bad, blowing fuses. If less than 7 years old it has a inverter board that can be trouble, But with the level of work and parts it will easily exceed the cost of a new microwave oven.

KitchenAid KHMS175M stopped working. Electrical socket is okay, no electrical breaker issues. No lights or fan either. Could this be a fuse and how would I check that?

Probably is a fuse. IT is behind the control panel. Remove grill, one screw hold panel n. Remove screw, lift panel straight up. You'll see how those hooks on the side of the panel fit for reassembly. The fuse will be ceramic, a light gray or white. amperage will be stamped in the silver end, probably 20A. I always checked for a reason for the failure, ie loose high voltage connections, faulty component, or high amp draw. You would have to open the unit up for that. So pay your 3 or 4 bucks for a CERAMIC replacement of the SAME AMP VALUE, and hope for the best. If the new one blows it needs to go to the shop.

Where is the fuse located on a kitchaid microwave khms155l

It is located behind the key panel. UNPLUG THE UNIT FIRST.
Remove top grill (2 sinked screws on top)
Now remove the single screw on top of the key panel. Barefully slide out the keypad up and out. The smart people of kitchenaid put the dang fuse jammed between the fan housing and the right wall. Remove the entire bottom plate that holds the lights and such... I think 8 screws. Now remove 2 screws that hold down the fan housing. Now you going to have to use a screw driver and some wiggling to move the plastic housing out of the way enough to pop and slide out the fuse and replace. To test you can use a continuity tester and place it between the fuse. There is nothing visible on this fuse (250Volt 20A fuse Fast Acting I think) e.g. you can't see that the fuse is broken or not. Make sure no wires are pinched while putting it all back.

Dead Microwave - Internal Fuse?

After replacing the internal fuse (see other posts to see how I did it) the microwave is working fine (so far). We have used it 5 or 6 times without any issues.

Dead Microwave

Check your plug and change the fuse there also.

You might need to rechange the 20 amp 250v fuse behind the control panel again due to the recent spark.

If none of this works then i'm afraid a certified technician needs to check the power packs and boards

Where's the fuse?

Yup, I had the same problem. The unit just stopped working. I gather that this is a common problem with this model. I followed other posts elsewhere, and found the fuse behind and near the top of the control panel. There's a white, cylindrical plastic thing about 1.5-in long in one of the wires that run down from the main fuse in the upper right corner. Pop open the case (you may have to cut a plastic tie around it). I replaced the fuse. My microwave is working now. We'll see how long it lasts.
It's hard to tell what kind of fuse it is, but reading elsewhere, it's a 250V 4A 5x20mm slow-blow fuse.  I haven't found a ceramic one just like came out, but a 4-pack of glass fuses that fit the specs are $3 at Radio Shack. PN 270-1066. (No endorsement implied, it's just where I found something that worked.)

No, the fuse in question (and there appears to be another like it lower behind the control panel) isn't on any of the diagrams or parts lists.

No power from Whirlpool.

IF YOU HAVE THE MICRWAVE PLUGGED IN AND THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPS IMMEDIATELY WHEN SET,
CHECK THE DOOR HOOKS THAT TRIP THE DOOR SWITCHES. BOTH SHOULD BE SPRING LOADED. THERE SHOULD BE TWO HOOKS ON THE DOOR. IF O.K., CHECK THE DOOR SWITCHES. THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE. IF ONE OF THEM IS SHORTED CLOSED,
THE MONITOR SWITCH WILL CAUSE A DEAD SHORT ACROSS THE FUSE. THE FUSE MAY BE HOLDING BETTER THAN YOUR CIRCUIT BREAKER.
