Monitor problems

i am running windows xp.my son was downloading music onto his ipod when the monitor went out.i have checked all the wires and cables.they are all connected.the monitorshows that windows is loading.then the screen goes blank

My monitor just won'tj come on it stays black no matter wha it stt I do

Same problem, only it crashes every time I try and enter safe mode

We have a emacine computer and monitor on the left side of the screen we have a black side and we can't read our emails or look something up on it,this is frustrating.Could you please help?
