Connected wireless to router, excellent signal, but unable to connect to internet.

connected to wireless router with excellent signal may not means you are connected to internet. make sure your modem provided by internet service provider has signal! connect your computer to modem directly bypassing router. If you are online that means your internet is functional. Then connect modem to your Linksys router and use your wireless to log on to internet.
Your router wireless signal active and excellent means you are connected to router not necessarily the internet. The modem supplied by your internet service provider with active internet should be connected to you router on WAN port!
good luck!!

How a conect to internet

METHOD 1 - Using Internet connection using DSL or cable connection.
1st. If you wish to connect to the Internet with a LAN cable or a wirelessly and if your computer doesn't have a LAN card or wireless LAN card you need to purchase a LAN card (to configure the wireless router) and if you want a wireless connection you will also need to purchase a wireless LAN card.
2nd. You need to select an Internet Service Provider in your area with a plan and cost to suit your requirements.
3rd. You need to decide what type of broadband connection you need, DSL or cable modem with or without a built-in wireless router, the Internet Service Provider can assist you with this.
5th. The Internet Service Provider can supply these items or advise you what make and model to purchase. They will also provide information on how to connect and setup your Internet connection.

METHOD 2 - Using USB wireless adapter that plugs into the laptop's USB port. It doesn't need a wireless router or a cable or DSL modem.
This is used mostly on laptop computers which allows Internet access anywhere the Internet Service Provide has a wireless transmitter. It uses the G3 mobile system.
This type of service usually costs more and again you need to select an Internet Service Provider that can provide the wireless coverage, the plan and costs that suit your requirements.
Installation and setting up information is supplied by the ISP.

No wireless connection

You need to have an Internet Service Provider. You connect the router to a modem from the cable Service Provider or through the phone line for BT. Then you can connect wired or wirelessly to internet through the router.

If you describe your set up in detail and tell me the Internet Service Provider I may be able to help more....

Wired and wireless computers

First get your router works with the internet on the wired connection before considering the wireless connection simplying the initial problem.

Once the router works wired is time to try the wireless.

Once the wireless works unsecured you may want to change the router and wireless adapter to secure the wireless network.

So this can be a three step process.

If you internet service is provided by a cable(tv) there is a reasonable chance your router will work out of the box no configuration changes. However, if your internet service is supplied on the phone line chances your router will work as it comes out of the box are much less. Who is your Internet Service Provider and if possible can you supply a link to their help/support website so I can see if they supply configuration instructions?

Computer interfacing

You have a computer (what manufacturer and model?) connected to a Netgear WGR614 wireless router (please confirm the router manufacturer and model) by wire or wireless?

If the computer is connected wireless is it with a wireless adapter built into the computer or added to the computer?

If it was added to the computer what is the manuracturer's name and model of the add-on device?

Has any other computer ever successfully connected to the internet using your router?
  • If so was the computer connected using a wire, if possible?
  • If so was the computer connected wirelessly?
If no computers were connected successfully to the router please provide the name of your internet service provider?
I also may need to know the city and state you are located in or other information. We probably need to configure the router to attach to your internet service providers equipment

The following are to determine if the internet service providers equipment has been successfully installed and the capabilities of that equipment as it may support connecting your router, if necessary, and your computer to the internet.
Were any computers ever successfully connected to the internet by directly connecting to your internet service providers hardware?

If yes how were they connected
  • USB cable?
  • Ethernet Cable?
  • Wireless?
  • If wireless what is the manufacturer and model of the internet serivce providers hardware providing the wireless service?
