It is very possible that the head alignment on your DVD recorder is a little out.

Also, make sure that you are closing the session after doing the recording (burn). If the session is not closed, the DVD will not be playable on other players.

DVD/VCR WILL NOT PLAY DVD DISCS

* check your warranty and call for service.(But it looks like this is a very old unit if it's a VCR/DVD combo.
* Pull plug and count to 10. Reconnect.
* check power lights. Does it say Ready, blinking time (12:00), any indication that power is on? No lights? Bad unit. Discard.
* If power okay, press open tray. Opens? Remove Disk. Insert "Known" working DVD (use a new store bought DVD that the kids did not play.) Press play.
* Is the disk reading? The DVD display should have changed while searching disk. No? Discard unit.
* Is it playing (the movie time should change as the movie plays). No video? Check cables to TV
* No sound? Check audio cables to TV (Red and White RCA Plugs)
* DVD and VCR plays disks or tapes but nothing on TV? Does the TV have an "Analog" input? Newer 2018 TVs may only accept Digital input like HDMI. A few may have the Video/Audio RCA plug input (usually used by the DVD player) though Digital TV's tend not to have this input.)
* You may need to have your old VCR tapes digitized (especially family tapes) There are "Analog to Digital" cable sets available at your electronics store or online at Amazon.com

* You may still find DVD players at thrift stores for under $20. I'm not sure if you can still find a new player.
* Try WalMart (Humm... no price given.)

I have prepared a home movie on Windows Movie Maker and when I copied it to a DVD it would not play on a dvd player can anyone tell me what I did wrong please thanks joe

The reason why the DVD disk you created may not contain the file format the DVD player recognizes. On a normal DVD disk there are two folders - AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. The video files are located in the VIDEO_TS folder. This video folder contains the VTS_xxx.vob video files (the video files has a .vob extension).
The video file you created may have a avi or wmv or mov or mpg extension, whilst these video files can be played on a computer but they won't play on a DVD player.
Check the movie software you are using and make sure it creates the correct file format for a DVD player.

I burnt a video to a DVD+R DL but not playing on my DVD player?

You don't need to format the disc, as it does this during the burn process. What you may find is that your NEC dvd player does not play DVD+R. If you can, re-burn the video on a DVD-R 8.5GB.

You can also compress the video to fit on 4.7GB dvd. Download a program called DVD Shrink 3.2. Put the disc you burnt in the drive, and run DVD Shrink. This will analize the film, and all you need to do is click on Re-Author and lower the compression. It even has a line to show how big the video will be on the disc. On a 4.7GB dvd, you don't want this any higher than 4,430MB.

Hope those work

Video copied to disk but cannot view on PC or other DVD players.

This is the unfortunate thing with copying DVD's. Unfortunately when a DVD is copied only certail players will play it back. I can burn a disk on my laptop and it will play fine in the laptop and on my Sony DVD player, but my Samsung will not read it. This is why when you burn DVD's it's important to find a brand that is read by numerous DVD players. Try using the Sony disks.

Hope this helps.
