I have an older Lutron system - the Maestro Wireless MRF-VCTX-WH. I can't find instructions to reconnect one dimmer. The only instructions online that I can find are for the Pico, and that process doesn't work. Any ideas? I feel like an idiot...

I couldn't find an MA-400 or High Power 2 dimmer, so you might want to double check the model numbers and look for a match in the link above.

If you are dimming it, use:
MS-OP600M-WH & MA-R-WH

If you are only planning on switching it, use:
MS-OPS6M-DV-WH & MA-AS-WH

Hello. There could be a couple of possibilities. First is the simplest to verify, is it a Companion Dimmer, Standard Dimmer switches or a 600W or 1000W Maestro Wireless Multi-location Dimmer. The Maestro Companion Dimmers can not be used individually, as they do not control a load, and must be used along with a Maestro or Maestro Wireless Multi-location Dimmer. The Campanion Dimmers are also a line/low voltage rating, and rated for incandescent and halogen but may not handle some flourescent fixtures. The other thing I can think of is that you may have interfearence from another item. They are radio frequency (RF) devices that communicate together for wireless control of lights. On the first page, its the wiring diagram smack-dab in the middle.
If you couldn't find it before, its because the MAW-603-RH-WH is a package containing two other products, the MA-600 and the MA-R. So the instructions I have noted above are appropriate.

1) If this installation was working before, the Maestro has a small pull-out circuit breaker that lets you reset the device. This is called the FASS Front Accessible Service Switch, located at bottom of dimmer where it meets cover plate.

2) If this is new installation, then double-check your wiring and check that load matches dimmer capacity: 600 watt incandescent or halogen, which excludes CFLs apparently.
Some electronic devices have shortened lifespan on circuits that are not clean. Use circuit analyzer on outlet on same breaker to see if line has interference.

3) I don't see MAW-600 W listed among Maestro dimmers, so I don't have that specific manual.

If I understand correctly, you have the Lutron Pico wireless control
And you have the Lutron Maestro companion switch or companion dimmer
Pico will not work with ordinary wall switch or dimmer >> it has to be a companion product from Lutron

Normally manuals give you some clue as to how the product works.
The PICO manual says it's easy to control lights (I guess it's easy for mind-readers)
There seems to be no answer or hint when working with the PICO.
I think Lutron tech support is where you go from here.

I have spent considerable time on the Lutron site past couple days looking at their dimmers.

Lutron has a lot of dimmer varieties. The basic breakdown is 600Watt and 1000Watt. But different dimmers control different types of lighting.

I cannot find a specific troubleshoot manual for Lutron dimmers
So I suggest 4 things:
1) Feel the dimmer switch for heat >>> if it is getting hot (not warm), then that dimmer is dangerous, so remove dimmer immediately, add up your total bulb wattage to make sure you're below the 600 or 1000 watt capacity of you model dimmer
2) Look at the list of manuals shown at link, and make sure your dimmer matches the type of bulb you are using. Your dimmer model number and wattage should be printed on side or back of dimmer.
3) These dimmers use electronics to control the lights. Electronics go bad. The higher the wattage controlled by your dimmer, the more heat, and the shorter the dimmer life.
4) Short in the wires. Replace your dimmer with one from Home Depot and see if the condition persists. If it does, then a short is probably somewhere in that circuit. Troubleshooting a short is another long answer that needs more wiring detail ... please repost if you have a short.

There is one more thing that you can try, turn the power off from the breaker and wait about 20 seconds, then turn back on. If that doesn't fix it you are probably right about the dimmer being bum. It is very rare that Lutron devices are defective. You can contact them directly and see if you can get it replaced since you no longer have the receipt. You may have to send it to them before they will send you a replacement but it beats spending another $50
