There is a problem with the control pad. The membrane, or surface, of the pad may be broken or damaged somewhere, resulting in the F2 error code. This is common for Whirlpool microwaves.


Press "Stop/Cancel" twice and select a new cook program. Press "Start" to begin.

If the error code persists, press "Stop/Cancel" again and unplug the microwave. Wait several minutes and plug it in. If the F2 code appears again, it requires repair.

but the internals of a microwave are dangerous, having high voltages even when unplugged. With the cost of parts and labour from a service tech, you may be best buying a new oven.

It is a bad keyboard error code. Try this, unplugg the unit, open the control panel and disconnect the ribbon cable from the control board, plugg back in, if F2 comes back on the board needs replacing, if it does not, then the problem is with the keypad.

F2 indicates a failure in the touch key pad. The part number for the keypad is 4393916 for white, 4393917 for black and 4393918 for almond color.

The part runs about $77.00. It can be replaced by removing the upper grille, then removing the one screw on top of the touch pad.

F2 on a Kitchenaid / Whirlpool / Maytag microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

On some models, the keypad is available separately.

On other models, the keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

It all depends on the model number.

F2 E0 is a shorted keypad. Replace the keypad which is your entire touch pad. In rare cases your ERC or electronic range control can also be bad, unlikely though. Hopefully this is still under warrantee as the part alone is over 150.00. I recommend you have a technician replace this as most parts houses will not warrantee a electical part if a customer installs it. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists.

F2 is touch pad failure, needs replacing by engineer

determined from whirlpool that the f2 display is from the control circuit board. the board's problem is intermittent and needs eventually replacing. not covered by warranty. determined that whirlpool has reduced the warranty for the electronic circuits in its appliances from 5 to 1 year. this is great for consumer confidence in whirlpool. have had trouble with 2 other new whirlpool appliances. probably will not buy another whirlpool appliance.

Not sure what you mean by "Q1 Touch FMEA" above, but F2 error code indicates a bad keypad or sometimes a bad sensor.

If you still have trouble, since it's new, it should obviously be under warranty, so I'd contact them (same page as shown above) to get it repaired under warranty.
