When I try to print anything to my Canon S900, I just get a Printer Not Responding message. The printer is giving 7 orange flashing lights followed by a longer green flash. The manual says that this would indicate a problem with the print head. All of the forums that I have been reading however suggest that the ink tank is full even though the manual says 8 flashes indicates this problem. I've tried reseting the full ink tank code by going through the correct sequence of pressing/holding the power/resume buttons but to no avail.
Before my printer was in this state, I had first noticed that the magenta color wasn't showing up properly. This started happening sometime after I put in some non-Canon cartridges in the printer (if that matters.) I performed the deep cleaning operation maybe 10 to 12 times. It seemed like it was actually getting a little better after the first 3 or 4 times but after that I don't think it made much difference. Since the colors were still not coming out right I tried taking out the print head but didn't do much with it besides inspect it. I wanted to see if there was something that might be obviously wrong with it but I didn't see anything so I just put it right back in the printer. At that point I started to get a low ink tank warning for the black int tank and it wouldn't print anything. About two weeks later I bought a new black ink tank, put it in the printer and now I get Printer Not Responding with the 7 orange flashes followed by a longer green light.
Since I actually had performed the deep cleaning a bunch of times I thought maybe the waste ink tank was full but I never got any message saying that the waste ink tank was almost full like some of the other forum members reported. Over the history of this printer I would guess I have done a deep cleaning maybe a total of 30 times. I've probably done the normal cleaning, maybe 15 times. It's just a guess. I only occasionally use this printer, maybe a couple times per month.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to avoid just trashing the printer.

Don't replace the print head soooo fast...
Take the print head out first and clean the gold contacts...
I used a very fine sandpaper like emery cloth...
You might get 4 yellow blinks after that.
That is because the printhead was turned upside down to clean and the ink looked low and/or out.
Just wait a few minutes after cleaning and reset...
Mine worked fine after that.... smile....
Seven flashes: Defective printhead Remove and reinstall the printhead. Also, ensure that the protective cap has been removed. If reinstalling the printhead does not resolve the problem, replace it with a new one.
