Completely wrong. Quoting from the user's manual:

"The charge indicator light (LED), located on the charg- ing stand, will light up red and glow when the char- ger is properly connected to power supply. This light indicates the charger is operating properly. It will remain on until battery pack is removed from charging stand or charger is disconnected from power supply.

After normal usage, 3 hours or less of charging time is required to fully recharge battery pack.

If both red and orange LED indicators glow, the battery pack is deeply or completely discharged, and 6 hours or longer of charging time is required to fully recharge battery pack.

Note: If charger does not charge battery pack or orange LED continues to glow after more than 30 minutes of charging, return battery pack and charging assembly to your nearest Ryobi Authorized Service Center for electrical check."

So to summarize: red = charging. orange (yellow) = fully discharged battery. orange after 30 minutes - bad battery or bad charger.

Hi,

The yellow light means that there still is an amount of charge on the battery, meaning that it isn't fully discharged. The red light means that it is partly discharged and you can charge it up.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up. Thanks,

Handie Andie

I have a 12 volt Ryobi battery charger number 14050 3001 that the red light is not coming on is this indicating that the charger is no good? yellow light flashes red light never comes on

If it is charging the battery properly I would not worry about it. Just do not leave it connected all the time. Charge the battery and disconnect.

I bought a Ryobl Power Drill 14.4volt last week at a D.I.Y. store and have found when charging the batteries the light on the charger is Yellow. In the instruction manual they only mention Red when...

yellow usually indicates a HOT battery and is waiting for a cool down before recharging or it can mean a defective battery/charger. If you just bought this unit I would take it back for warranty replacement.

Yellow and green light are on but wont charge battery?

If both lights are on and both are flashing the charger is reading the battery as defective and the charger won't charge the battery. If the Red light (yellow if plastic is faded) is on and the green is flashing the charger is trying to charge the battery. If the battery won't charge replace it.

How do you test a charger for my 18 volt ryobi 4 pac (it has a circular saw, sawzall, flashlight and drill) all of a sudden it would not charge batteriesaanymore and before i buy a new charger i want...

When you insert a battery for charging, which light(s) combination do you see?. There should be red,green and yellow and different individual lights or combinations of lights mean different things. If only the red light goes on, chances are the batteries are to cold to charge. They will not charge below 32F so if your charger is in the garage, take the batteries in the house until they are room temp then try again. If you still have a problem and the unit or batteries are are less than 2 yrs old they should be be under warranty.

Green and red light comes on when i put battery in charger what does that mean?

Here is the manual:
http://toolboyworld.com/eBay/Ryobi_P120/P120_566_eng.pdf

Red = quick charge
yellow = evaluating
green = charged

CHARGING A COOL BATTERY PACK
If battery pack is within normal temperature range, the red LED on charger will come on.

Red LED should remain on for approximately 1 hour then the green LED will come on. Green LED on indicates battery pack is fully charged and charger is in maintenance charge mode.

Green & Yellow light on 14.4V charger

It sounds like your battery is bad.

If both yellow and green LEDs come on, this indicates
a deeply discharged or defective battery pack.
Allow the battery pack to remain in the charger for 15
to 30 minutes. When the battery pack reaches normal
voltage range, the red LED should come on. If the
red LED does not come on after 30 minutes, this may
indicate a defective battery pack and should be
replaced.
n After normal usage, a minimum of 1 hour of charging time
is required to fully recharge battery pack.

Charger not charging

Just was on a website for Ryobi drills and it states that if the yellow and green light stay on for more than 15 minutes the battery is fried. Couldn't find the link but if you do a search for Ryobi Drill 18 volt you should find the same info. It was as product review from Australia I think.

I also have a problem with the charging of Ryobi batterys. They seem to charge AOK with the green light coming on but the charge does not last at all. Not sure if the problem is with the batteries on the charger.

18 volt ryobi battery charger...green & yellow lights come on what does that mean????

talked to Ryobi and they are vague. It can either mean that the battery is bad, or the charger is bad and another one that maybe the contacts of the battery are dirty or not seating fully in charger. What I would look for in this instance first unplug the charger and look into charging slot to make sure the terminals of the charger are not bent and they come out into the cavity where battery would go. If not gently pull terminal into opening and retry. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance
