It depends on the quality of the image and the number of mega pixels at which you shoot photos. HP Photosmart M517 shoots at up to 5 mega pixels + there is an additional setting called "5MP Best". 5MP setting creates images that are around 1.5MB - 3.5 MB in size. So, assuming 2.5 MB as an average, you'll get around 52 images per 128 MB at the best possible quality. You can do the other math. However, the camera always displays an "estimate" of how many more pictures you can take.

Now if you want to increase the number of pictures you can take you should decrease the image quality. 5 MP regular might give you upto 64 images per 128 MB, 3 MP may give you uptp 128 images per 128 MB (these are all approximations that evaluated based on my experience with this camera). I suggest that you don't go below 3 MPotherwise you'll get images that look OK on screen but not good for printing.

Settings for taking pictures

What kind of picture do you want to take? What do you want that picture to say to the viewer?

There are a lot of different settings because there are a lot of different types of pictures. You don't want the same settings for a landscape picture as for a portrait picture. You probably wouldn't want the same settings for a portrait of a young girl as for a portrait of her grandfather.

If you're not comfortable choosing the settings yourself, set the camera to the appropriate scene mode. For taking pictures of people use the Portrait mode, for taking pictures of where you are on vacation use the Landscape mode, and so on.

If you want to learn more, your local library probably has some introductory photography books that tell you how the various settings such as aperture and shutter speed affect your pictures.

Camera still possessed

There is something wrong with the settings of the camera.
When it is on setting or view mode is fine. It is not supposed to take pictures.
Go thru the Menu and pick the way you want your pictures, size and all those details, switch them take pictures and keep switching the settings until you get it right.

My camera was taking 3 pictures at the time, and it was because of the setting was set to do that. Don't be afraid of changing the setting for pictures, you can always change and try different things, digital pictures can be erased right away. So you can try as much as you want.
Try all options in the setting for taking a picture, change a setting, try to take a picture and see what happens. Then try on another setting and so on.

Picture adjustment questions

*The brightness control setting determines how bright your picture will be. *The contrast control sets the gain of the video circuit. This determines the difference between dark and light scenes. Low contrast settings make the picture "hazy". High contrast settings make the picture more distinction between dark and light scenes. *The sharpness control determine the frequency response of the video circiut. High sharpness settings give better resolution but also shows more noise in your picture. Lower sharpness settings smoothe out the picture removing noise but also fine detail. It needs to be set for the best all around picture. *Picture Enhancement is pre-set adjustments which give you different picture qualities. You just select the one you like. Stargazer
