Prob viewing windows media on viewsonic monitor

I'll try this again. I am having problems viewing video playback on a viewsonic monitor. The backlight on my laptop went out, so I connected a monitor to it. I have not probs viewing other videocontent on the monitor. However I get a faint red screen where the video should be. I can still see a faint image of what should be on the monitor on my laptop screen.
