YOU DONT ADAPT IT, U REPLACE THE RECEPTACLE OR USE THE CORRECT PRONG CORD. THE CORDS ARE NOT THAT EXPENSIVE FROM 20 TO 30 BUCKS AND EVEN CHEAPER ON LINE. IF U HAVE A NEWER HOME IT IS MANDATED BY LAW THAT YOU USE 4 PRONG CORD NOT 3 PRONG UNLESS THE HOME CAME WITH A 3 PRONG OUTLET.
a 3 prong has a black/red wire for L1 and L2 hots... then white for neutral- in the four wire setup it will be as follows black L1/red L2 both hot wires, white neutral or "N" terminal and /Green for safety ground to unit case
Yes, a 3-prong DOES have a NEUTRAL wire. That would be the WHITE terminal. A 3-prong does not have a separate ground. The NEUTRAL is usually grounded at the appliance casing by a jumper wire.
Read in the "Additional Notes" section on how to convert from a 4-prong to 3-prong. Also note that some of the newer appliances require a 4-prong plug in order to run correctly. I have a Kenmore HE3 model dryer that is currently using a 3-prong power cord. Since this model Kenmore is manufactured by Whirlpool, and is identical to the Duet, you should be okay with a 3-prong plug.
if she went from a 4 prong cord to 3 prong cord the only difference is a extra green ground wire... black and red to the out side screws and the white in the middle... not sure what your calling a converter... unless the changeing of the cord.. 4 prong are mostly in trailers here in florida
