I have already sent my 605 back and it was returned with the same problem. If I connect wifi I get popping and hissing in the headphones when content is being downloaded. When trying to watch video from YouTube also get pop and hissing. Appears that the power filter on the network chip isn't filtering out the feedback.
Called Archos after recieving my unit back from repair and they told me it is a known problem and as soon as they can determine a solution they will contact me. They could not give me a possible target date for finding a solution and basically told me I am stuck with the unit until they find a solution.
Now the question is, does any one else have this same problem?
Contact Archos support and they can provide you the file to repair your disk. Once you have the file stored on your computer, you will then hook up your Archos via USB and copy the file they provide you to the root of the Archos.
The direction I got when trying to fix my pop/hissing
"If you power on the unit by pressing and holding the TV/LCD button and power button simultaneously the unit will boot into a recovery screen. Once in this screen choose "Repair Disk" and follow the on screen instructions.
When prompted, please place the following file into the 'root directory' of
the unit:
http://update.archos.com/5/a605/a605_r2.1.04/firmware_a605.aos
"
Hope this helps.
