My G1 reads SIM card is PUK-locked. What do i do?

These directions are for an AT and T phone, but other than that, are the same for any carrier. A PUK (PIN Unlock Key) code is required to unlock SIM cards that have become locked following three successive incorrect PIN entries. If your SIM card becomes locked, you will need to get a PUK code from your phone carrier to unlock your SIM card. A request for a PUK code ("Personal Unlocking Key") will appear on your phone if your SIM card PIN code is entered 3 consecutive times incorrectly.

Your SIM card will then become "PUKed" or Blocked. This is a security measure to protect your service.

You need to call the Customer Service department of your cell phone provider and they will give you the PUK code which will unblock your SIM card.

You should fix this problem by inserting the PUK code that was given to you by your broadband provider/Sim Package. This is a security code.

call the carrier. only the carrier has puk. if not an option. buy new sim card

I had the same problem.. G1 phones are not really designed to deal with this issue very easily.
The only way around it is if you either:

a) remove your SIM card and put it in another T-Mobile phone, you can enter the code that way
or
b) take it in to a T-Mobile store and they will put it in one of their phones for you to enter code

when you have a new sim card there is also a puk no w/c is in sim pack.try to look at in the sim pack its there.if your phone asking a puk no.just enter the puk no.if you have puk no,you can call customer service to get your puk no.

It seems you encode a wrong sim card password?

PUK means "personal unlocking key" .

The PUK code is asked if you enter a wrong pin 3 times.

You need to call your phone service company, they can retrieve the puk code from a database
for free.

In your case you need to contact your SIM card phone provider technical support to unlock the SIM.


The PIN and PUK are related to the SIM card, not to the phone.

If you replace the SIM card with a different one, then the phone should not ask for the PUK anymore.

The puk code is sim card spesific it comes with the sim card when you get it or you can get it by calling your phone service provider of the sim card to get the puk code.
if you have entered the puk code wrong too many times you will make the sim card useless and you will have to contact your phone service provider for a new sim card, it will probably cost.
