I have a compaq evo w8000 desktop and want to install a sata drive instead of the built in scsi drive. I can install windows xp (i've got the sata card drivers and pressed F6 etc, that all works fine) onto it right until the installation reboots, from then on the desktop can't find the sata drive to continue the boot process. I've checked the bios settings for the boot order, but there is no mention of the sata drive. Is there an option somewhere I need to turn on so that it recognises the sata drive. Thanks for any help.

Ok a very very old DT , desk top, ive done this vast times, back long long ago... 17 years old, you use this old of hardware why?

we dont use XP in uSA its VIRUS magnet. horred
and no updates, now, means will get worse each day forward in time. endless...

has built in, SCSI chip. l Ultra160 SCSI and Ultra ATA/100

that ATA means PATA port, not SATA back then.

my wild guess now is that someone put an a new SATA card in the PCI slot, (ive done so vast times)
The BIOS in your machine will never support that.
that means you can not boot to PCI SATA. for sure.b
but wait, the better SATA card works just like a new Adaptec
ultra160 card that if love.
the new SATA card has what is called a BIOS extension ROM on said card, and a new HOT key to access it.
some are CONTROL +A but each maker of said card ,does as he pleases, so READ THERE MANUAL.
you set it to boot o STAT port and it does if port 0 is bootable drive. SATA.
here ill take you now to newegg.com and show you hardware that works.
if you showed a photo of your CARD and # id have answered, 10x better. !!!!!
i cant shop for you, nor pick SATA 1 ,2 or 3 for you.
but here

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAC0F5KW5808&cm_re=sata_card-_-9SIAC0F5KW5808-_-Product

the big trick here is making sure you relic MOBO
supports the current levels of PCI>
like above
32-bit / 66MHz PCI interface compliant to PCI Rev 2.3
(Backward-compatible with PCI 33

https://www.promise.com/media_bank/Download%20Bank/Datasheet/FT_TX2300_DS091406.pdf

Control +F (see page 11)

https://www.promise.com/media_bank/Download%20Bank/Manual/FastTrak_TX_Series_User_v3.2.pdf

warning, ive run in to big problems using very old relic
motor-boards that use the very old PCI signals and levels.
and will fail on some newers card
I warned you,
the above reads good. for that. (hope )

now my question why use such old hardware.
when goodwill has truck loads of 10year old pCs for $20
why, love of XEON?
id trash it.
find a use desktop with SATA ports, ALL DO now, or scrapped.

SOURCE: Ethernet Drivers for Compaq Evo for XP

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=998

This should work.

And just to add that your system specs are really old and you should think about upgrading. 128 mb ram upgradable to 2 gigs.

Integrated 4x agp graphics...you should be able to install a new agp graphics card.

Or you should buy a new computer if you dont know how to build your own which can be tricky and expensive if you cant reuse many parts.

Compaq Evo W6000 will not boot

Old DT PC. Compaq. what OS? why not ask at HP.com?
SCSI sets up SCSI devices, HDD or TAPE.
it was used mostly on servers.
old desktop,
running what, OS2 (ibm) or running windows.?
if windows ,windows what, you never stated the OS that ran.
it has XP 32 or XP 64 as a 2 and 3rd options
or did you wisely upgrade it? we cant guess any of these facts

my guess is the boot files are messed up or the HDD is dead.
looks to me like 2002 PC full sized desktop (as old as)
it does have SCSI (and
and has this warning on the HP support page for it.
Workstations Fix for "FBISM - ******* Operation" on Restore to SCSI Drives
update this is. sp22541.exe (0.6 MB)
  1. BIOS setup wrong, not booting the correct device (control+A)
  2. HDD startup files missing or corrupted.
  3. HDD bad. (run tests on it?)
if the HDD is ok , reload unstated OS.

this thing ran for 15 years and now only died? today?
it has ,
Ultra160 SCSI (1 (68-pin internal)) with windows 2000 on the first ones.
read page 46
here
if the scsi Hdd is still the boot drive
then then the ATA drive must be set to last. per page 46 in bios
once the Ultra 160 is the boot device, it too must now
be setup right to boot the correct SCSI drive, (lots of books cover
that great chip, from "Adaptec"

hp usually deletes all files this old but not here,
you are lucky some remain, now.

I have a Compaq Presario Desktop Computer SR1150NX. I've added a new WD SATA 1 Terabite HD. but the system does not recognize it. I updated the Bio's but see no way to activate the SATA ports. The...

The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Hello'I' gt a compaq d330 ut desktop Pc to arrange

If you format the hard drive NTFS format you should be able to install Windows XP. If the computer is old, the hardware may not work with Windows XP. Any computer built in last 8-9 years should work with Windows XP.

I can not install Windows on my Compaq Evo N620c

The quickest solution here would be to put the hard drive into a computer that has Windows already running, and format it through the operating system itself. I've run into this problem a few times, and when another computer wasn't available I would use a Linux boot disk to clear out all my partition tables, then I would load up with Windows XP and tell it to write a new NTFS partition. Do NOT select the 'quick format' option, you'll have to wait through the long one.

ACPI BIOS not fully compliant

w8000 a very old PC not supported by HP.
windows 2000 support ended like 15 years ago.. W2k. is gone. w2k only runs on very old pcs with very old ACPI
(power controls is that)

this PC is only supported with XP
never 2000.
HP tells you that if you looked.
park the 2000 disk or use it as frezzbee. IMO

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/compaq-evo-workstation-w8000/322279

id get w7 disk and use that, it might work.
but will cost you a license from MS,
about 5 times the value of w8000

why not just go here, and get used $20 w7 pc
save a bundle of case and grief messing with any legacy junk....avoid legacy junk and win.

What you have to do is make a floppy disk with sata drivers on it and get a usb floppy drive, because its intel you need the matrix storage manager. get it from here:
