Is this a front loader? If so, there is a panel right below the door. Three screws hold the panel. Remove the screws, and right behind that panel is a filter. have a towel ready, and screw the filter out. it is probably clogged. Remove the debris from the basket, was it out and replace.
If its a top loader, then try running about a galleon of vinager thru it to remove the hard water build up. Good luck
under the unit where the water line connects,this is where the filters are.disconnect the water line take the fitting off that the line was hooked to,screen is there under fitting.
I had a similar problem where slowly specific buttons stop working. Moisture was getting into the control board and slowly killing buttons. I replaced the control board and that worked for another year, until the buttons began dying again.
For now, there are other ways to start the machine, but you just have to let time expire to stop it. It is probably a control board issue.
