Compaq laptop keyboard mulfunction

Mostly the problem is with Dust .. every time u should clean.. if dust is der in keyboard it'll get tight wen u type something..

This could be because the key is stuck inside. Tap the J Key gently or a bit hard or try to pull it out ( dont remove it off ). Normally hitting a bit hard on the Key solves the problem.

Your Keyboard needs to be replaced, I had a family member with the same issue.

Run check disk for hard drive errors. I recommend immediately backing up all your data that you can, wiping it, and reinstalling your programs. The rebooting problem smells like a bad hard drive. I just went through it with a Compaq at work.

Might be a sticky key situation.  If you have patience and a steady hand, you can fix this yourself.  But, you need to figure out if the problem is with just one key, or a couple.  Sometimes, removing the one key that causes the problem and putting it back on again will fix it.  I would type in your model computer in google and look for a tutorial.  Something like http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop15.htm will help.  If all else fails, it is not too costly to replace the keyboard itself.  (Simple installation, too)

There are 2 common problems for this.
1. Something got stuck under the keyboard of your laptop. Food scraps or Dirt and Grime build-up due to sweaty palms or fingers clean the keyboard.
2.The Membrane on your keyboard that act as a switch cold be shorted due to wear and tear or heavy key presses. Have your keyboard replaced.

Other problems could be cracked board if you happen to lean or put heavy stuff over the keyboard and cracked ribbon connector.

Click Start>Run

Type osk in the box and press enter. (Note: osk stands foe On-Screen Keyboard.)

When the keyboard pops up click on SLK.

Exit the on screen keyboard.

YOU should type your password then press enter or attach a usb keyboard then type

i suppose you are pressing SHIFT while you want to type@..?

hi,i presume that u cannot punch in the password as the keyboard is not working, except the Enter key, u can do two things, reset the bios, or repair the keyboard, by removing it and cleaning the contacts, to reset the BIOS, locate the small lethium battery, remove it and keep it outside for some time, then put it back,that will reset the BIOS.. try either of it.. let me know...
