Yes it is quite possible that valves are bent if the cam belt broke or teeth stripped off of old belt, which unfortuneately means removing the cylinder head and getting it repaired (valves replaced and possibly guides) see some of my other posts for cam belt timming marks locations etc...
depending what motor is in your vehicle twin cam or single?

how to replace a broken - stevenhurc_14.jpg and if its twin cam you usually need cam locking tool for cam gears.

How do i change a timing belt on a 2000 daewoo lanos 1.4 e tec

If this is an "interference" engine and the belt broke while running you may have major engine damage. If non-interference, buy shop manual to give all details and torque values for this very important procedure.

I have a 1997 daewoo lanos1.5l single over head cam and broke the timing belt then the engine stalled so i replaced belt and set the timing marks. every thing was correct when set the crankshaft was top...

hi, just letting you know my timing belt just went on my daewoo lanos. unfortunately it seems in a daewoo lanos that when the timing belt goes, it can do damage to one of the valves. mine is in at the mechanics and i am still hoping that it hasnt done any damage. i was also told that if you have replaced the timing belt and the car still wont start it has definitely done damage to a valve. sorry to give you the bad news!!

I have a daewoo lanos 2000 and the timing belt broke and before that the car overheat and i just would like to know if there could be more problems i havet drive my car in 6 months.

When a timing belt breaks it is likely to cause engine damage. You will most likely need to replace the engine head. ($700-$1000 parts & labour))

Yes, there can be more problems! I've had the following -

(1) starter motor - this is easily replaced and is fairly cheap to get a 2nd hand one - approx $80 for the motor

(2) crank angle sensor & coil - approx $500 parts & labour

If a waterpump siezed on a Daewoo Lanos would that break the camb

Yes. I think. A lot of cars have the water pump under the timing cover and you change the pump when you change the timing belt. They usually don't seize though, they just leak. Did you run it after it broke? How long before the engine quit? Did it start knocking? When you go to change the belt, look for a broken cam, or other damage that the broken belt would have caused. Some engines are free running, meaning they will turn over no problem when the belt goes, other engines are intermittent, meaning the valves hit the tops of the pistons and cause considerable damage. Find out before you go too far. Hope this helps.

If the timing belt breaks does this shear or bend the valves on a 2000 deawoo lanos?

All Daewoo Engines are interference fit Engines. Which means that if the timing belt rips while the engine is running the pistons will hit and bend the valves and you will have to get new valves and possibly a new cylinder head. Worst case scenario you will also have to get a new engine block if for some reason chunks or pieces of valve, piston or cylinder head damaged the cylinder bore and cracked the block while things were moving around. Daewoo Timing belts are recommended to be replaced at 60,000 miles but it is best to replace them before 60k as some people have had their timing belts break on them as soon as 61,000 miles.

My timing belt in my 98 Daewoo Lanos snapped recently and the mechanic i took it to told me there was no need to check to see if there was any damage inside the engine because daewoo motors always drop...

yes they bend valves
head needs to come off and valves will need replacing
this can be repaired
timming belts on these should be replaced every 60,000km

Remove and replace timming belt on lanos sx 1598cc 1998 thank you

First remove head and fix the bent valves. I have worked at a Daewoo dealer. People would buy the belt and come right back to get valves and gaskets. Daewoo timing belts must be replaced every 60,000 miles.

Replaced timing belt not running right

The Lanos engine are an interference engine. If you have bent valves, remove a plug wire one at a time and see if there is no change in the idle. My guess, one of them isn't going to change anything. That would be the cylinder that has the bent valves in. I had a Lanos in my shop with a broken timing belt and the head had several bent valves. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you also have bent valves.
