Cheapest steps first, getting more progressively expensive as the list progresses:

1) Upgrade the BIOS for the system, available at support.dell.com
2) Upgrade the chipset drivers to the latest version, same website.
3) Upgrade the wireless card drivers to the latest version, same website.
4) Re-set the wireless antennas. Usually you can access the WLAN mini-PCI card at the bottom of the systems. It will have two small wires connected to it, one white and one black wire.
5) Re-seat the wireless card. It's like a large RAM SO-DIMM chip, snap-in and out.
6) Perform a system restore (hopefully it doesn't come to that)
7) Re-install windows

More expensive:
8) Replace the WLAN card.
9) Replace the system board.

My Dell Inspiron 1525 has been connected to wireless networks in the area and working perfectly. Suddenly this morning the connection was disabled and now it tells me there are no networks available....

Sometimes when you boot up the wireless card does not get an IP address from the wireless router. If you have an wireless icon on the task bar with a red X on it then right click on this icon and click Repair, if not go to the Control Panel - Network Connections - right click on the wireless connection and Repair. This will force the wireless router to issue the wireless card with new IP address.
If this doesn't work check the Device Manager to see if the wireless card is enabled and functioning, if not reinstall the wireless driver and configure it to match the wireless router settings.

Inspiron 6400 detects networks but does not connect to internet

Make sure you are connecting to your own internet connection through your wireless router and not on your neighbor's.....limited connectivity means you are out of reach or signal is blocked....

Dell Inspiron 6000 with network card Intel/Pro Wireless 2200 BG

So u can connect to the router, but you arent allowet to access the internet?
The router gave your dell a new ip-number, but it dident gave you access to the net. You ned to do the settings in your router manual, let the router give your dell full access.

Good luck
