Help! Our Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop (service tag# 28D58F1) stopped printing. It was printing through our wireless network to our main computer with printer attached with no problems and then one day we tried to print and nothing. When I look in the inspirons control panel/printers the printer shows ready. Any suggestions appreciated, thank you!

There are several things to look for, but here are the first things to check:

  1. Is the printer plugged in and turned on?
  2. Can you print a test page from the main computer to the printer? If not, check what is in the queue to print on the main computer. Delete (Cancel) any print jobs in there that are not printing.
  3. Is the printer on the main computer marked as shared, if not, mark the printer as shared.
  4. Look at the print queue on the Inspiron laptop, if there are jobs stuck in there, delete (cancel) any stuck print jobs from the laptop and attempt to print a test page from it's printer properties by right-clicking on its icon in the control panel and clicking Print Test Page.
  5. If none of the above has revealed the problem...
    1. Remove the printer from the laptop by right clicking on its icon and choosing to remove the printer.
    2. Click on Add Printer and attempt to add the printer back to the laptop by following the instructions that come up. If the printer is not located, make sure your wireless network is running and that you are able to connect wirelessly with both the main computer and the laptop.
      1. Make sure that you are on the same Workgroup or HomeGroup
(right click on Computer (or My Computer, or This PC) in your file explorer and choose properties to see your Workgroup or Homegroup information) in any case, both computers must be on the same network).

SOURCE: On Dell Inspiron 1501, at college dorm, wireless internet drops

Hmmmm
If you can obtain an "802.11 N" wireless card, a USB type then you may have better luck maintaining your connection.
In the meantime, set your card to use "Only G", not "B" or "A".
This will keep your connection at the highest speed until you invest in a "N" adapter ($30).
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: dell inspiron 1521 error code 2000-0146

Hi eodnd119,

That's not a good error code. That is telling you your hard drive is bad.
You likely have a drive where sectors are going bad - sometimes they may be readable, sometimes not. But it's just a matter of time before the drive fails completely.
Replace the hard drive.

Good Luck,

Mark

Assuming that the wireless driver is enabled and working, if not reinstall the wireless card driver. Are all the lights on the router are on, if not power down the wireless router, wait for 30 secs and power up the wireless router. Sometimes when you boot up the wireless card doesn't get an IP address from the wireless router. If you see the wireless icon on the Task Bar with a red X against it, just right click on the icon and click on Repair. This will repair the connection and get the wireless router to issue the wireless card with a new IP address. If you don't have an icon on the Task Bar go to Control Panel - Network Connection and right click on the wireless Network connection and click on Repair.
