There is a cmos/ rtc battery but that would have nothing to do with powering on your laptop. Most likely there is an issue in the circuit at the DC power jack. If the connection seems loose, or moving the plug at the point where it connects to the computer gives a glimmer of power then it is the jack. The DC jack is usually soldered to the motherboard and requires some knowledge to repair. If the jack is okay then there is a problem further up in the power circuit on the motherboard which means trouble.
This is what you power jack looks like and yours is not soldered, but has a 4 pin connector that plugs in to the motherboard. Much easier to replace than a soldered connection. Click HERE to see it.
P.S. Just because there is a green light on the adapter it doesn't mean power is being distributed to the connector tip. You may want to try a different adapter before spending money to have it diagnosed.
Since you have eliminated those items here is another thought. It is possible the power button board is out.

At this point you don't want to guess (neither do I since it is not in front of me). You certainly don't want to start buying parts without knowing the cause. Could be a bad memory module, (did you remove and reseat them-one at a time?), Try powering on w/o the hard drive in? Seems that this model has a history of this power problem but no direct cause. If it is not one of these external parts I am afraid you will probably be looking at a new motherboard.

The DC power jack is stable and not loose.
I tried a new adapter and there was no change.
Thanks for your time and patience. I was able to fix my daughter's computer. Apparently, her notebook crashed and I think she may have pushed the power on button too many times. Also, the battery discharged and since the power on button was stuck...no power. Again, thanks for your help and my daughter is glad her notebook is now working fine..
