Question about Sta Rite 3/4 Hp Above Ground Pump Ne640

1 Answer

My water system is loosing pressure. The pump runs until it gets to the preset of 50 psi but when it stops, the pressure drops right away. if I shut off the pump, it drops to 0 psi. I checked the pressure tank and holds its air pressure to the required 28 psi with no problem. Plenty of water since is a Sta-Rite shallow well pump with a 600 gal tank for water source.

There is a screened check valve that should be attached to the pick up / suction side of the pump on the very end of the plumbing in the bottom of the well. If you have shut off the water output going to the home / what ever and the pump still drops pressure to zero as soon as it shuts off the shallow well foot valve is stuck open / has failed.

Some systems use both a foot valve and an in-line check valve to prevent the symptom you currently have.

Foot valve example:

If this valve has failed... there is nothing to prevent the contents of the pressure tank from dumping back into the shallow well.
I doubt you have a shut off on the pump suction side but if you do once the pump shuts off close this valve. I would bet your pressure tank holds the pressure. If you do not have a shut off valve... just feel for a rush of water in the suction pipe AFTER the pump reaches pressure and shuts off. If your feeling water flow with the pump off and the tank at pressure / loosing pressure the foot valve is bad.

Why does my pump loose pressure

Sounds like your not using enough water, and or your pipes to sprinkler is to to small, causing pump to build up to cut off head. I cant lay my hands on a performance chart for your pump, but 60 psi cut off and 20 on sounds about right. Try running another tap when your sprinkler is running, and see if this keeps your pump running

I have a new 1 hp utiltech pump and a new. Precharged tank with 34 psi in it now. When i prime the pump the pressure goes right to 25 psi and i can hear some water moving . When i open the shut off valve...

The 34 psi of the pressure tank sounds high, but it depends on what the cut-in pressure is set at in the pump pressure switch. Typically the pressure switch is for 20-40 psi or 30-50 psi. To establish what the pre-charge of tank should be , you need to establish what the pressure switch setting are (i.e 20 - 40 psi , etc.) Run the water and watch the pressure gauge and note at what pressure the pump comes on. The pressure tank needs to be pre charged 2 -4 psi below that cut-in pressure. So if the cut-in pressure is say 30 psi, then the tank needs to be pre charged to 28 psi.
To pre charge the pressure tank, turn the pump off. Drain the pressure tank of water to relieve all pressure in the tank. Then check the pressure of the tank at the air valve. Set the pressure to 2 psi below what the cut-in pressure is.
If you adjust the pressure switch, say from 20-40 to 30-50, you will need to go through the procedure of re adjusting the pressure in the tank. I hope this helps....

I live in Brazil where the city turns off the water every few days. So everyone uses a water tank on the roof to store water. Thus, there isn't much water pressure at the faucett. I have a GE Potscrubber...

the solenoid just opens and closes the tap and is rated only for a max pressure of 40 psi
and higher and it will not shut off properly
your fix for this problem will be a small pressure controlled pump connected before the water to the washer so that when the washer requires water the drop in preset line pressure will activate the pump and produce pressure up to the 40 psi
when the washer shuts of the water requirement, the pump stops operation until the next water requirement cycle
such units are used in RV units , caravans , homes using tank water supply and can be obtained from irrigation and pump shops , or caravan places and some marine boat shops as the same units are used on board

PUMP JUST RUNS AND WONT SHUT OFF MQ3-45

DOES THIS SYSTEM FEED YOUR HOME.DOES IT HAVE PSI TANK. WHAT COULD BE HAPPENING.IS.THERE IS A PRESSURE SWITCH (fyg-2) THAT WAS INSTALLED ON YOUR SYSTEM. THIS ITEM, DEPENDING ON IT'S MANUFACTURE.COME PRESET AT 20/40 PSI OR 30/50 PSI OR 40/60 PSI. THAT MEANS ON START/OFF START PSI. SO IF YOUR PUMP CONTINUES TO PUMP AND WON'T TURN OFF.YOUR SYSTEM PUMPS MAY HAVE SOME WEAR TO IT OR A POSSIBLE HOLE IN THE DROP PIPE THAT IS NOT ALLOWING YOUR SYSTEM TO REACH PSI THAT IT SET FOR. ALL U HAVE TO DO IS READJUST THE PRESSURE SWITCH TO THE PSI READING THAT IS ON PSI GAUGE.

Grundfos JPF4A pump. takes a long time to get up to prime then once it kicks in after running water it gets to 50 shuts of but drop pressure instantaneously and kicks back in again. The constant on off...

The check valve is bad. When the system builds up pressure and shuts off the check valve prevents water from dropping back down the well line. When the check valve goes bad water drops back down the well line and siphons water back out of the well tank causing the switch to kick on and off constantly. The check valve will between on the well line coming from the drop pipe. It may be making a constant rattling noise as pump is running. Replace the check valve and you should be fine. Also check the pressure in bladder tank it should be 2psi below the "cut-in" pressure for the switch.

I have1997 4.3 ther.body i trun key rolling engr over get 50 psi wen stop rolling eng over feul psi go to 0psi right now

Does the truck run? 50 psi should be enough to start the truck. The fuel pump my not be able to hold the pressure. You may have an injector stuck open letting the fuel pressure drop. It could also be the fuel pressure regulator. It is very hard to find those problems because fuel injectors and regulator are mounted inside the intake. If you can find a way to block off the return line of the fuel pump you can see if it then holds pressure. Then try to block off the pressure line right after cranking to see if the pressure holds. This will let you know if the pump is working correctly.

Pump spinning but not getting up to speed then shuts off

You have a pressurized system using a pressure tank. This is a case of an air logged pressure tank. Meaning there is more air than water in the pressure tank. The pressure tank must hold 2/3 water and 1/3 air of its total volume. Installed at the tank is the air volume control to take care of this proportion. Should the air volume control malfunction or becomes defective, the air-water ratio is affected. And then,
the pressure tank becomes either air logged or water
logged.
SOLUTION:
1. Shut the power off, and open the discharge line
gate valve to flush the water in the pipe lines.
2. Open the drain plug of the pressure tank to empty
all the water at the pressure tank.
3. Close the drain plug, and put the power on.
4. Start the pump, and set the flow control valve 1/4
open.
5. The pump will normally run.
