Tad older post but not too old, and ignored.
it's an old monitor lucky you it works at all,
after all most are dead now, 99%
15 years old today.
if the OSD is dead under 10second from, power on
the Montors CCFL tubes are dead.
the fail these ways
1: dead for ever.
2: work intermitantly (you)
3:Strobes.(means flashing like in a DISCO)
4: only 1/2 screen dead, (2 tube displays)
5; turn yellow, for white
6: dim, for ver.
never seen any 15 year old CCFL screens good.
not me unless parked on self for 10 years.
the clue is on last page, in your manual, the word "
mercury Hg toxic, it's there, means CCLF tubes here)
the cure is 2010 or newer monitors with LED back lamps
do that now, end the pain of #1 soon to happen.

SOURCE: monitor goes black
Sorry to have to tell you this, but this is common in LCD monitors. The reason that it is going black when it boots is for one of two reasons. You either have a bad power supply that powers your LCD or your LCD's backlight is blown. These can be repaired or you can purchase a new one. But if it goes black 9 times out of 10 is because the backlight is bad. These can be repaired!

By initiating the on screen menu, you navigate to the brihghtness etc. This can also be related to contrast. Get a keyboard with zoom keys that will make it east to enlarge text.Mine is a logitech wireless S510 and its a great bargain and comes with mouse.the best solution is, however to buy a 42 inch or larger display and use that as you monitor. I can never go back!
SOURCE: Acer Monitor Doesn't Receive Signal From Computer
can you test your monitor on another computer to verify the monitor is at fault? If the monitor is at fault its time for a new one, factory warranties on monitors are usually 1 year unless you purchased an extended warranty.Otherwise repair is usually more costly than buying a new one.
SOURCE: Acer al1714
The problem may not be the monitor. Acer AL1714 is known for its weak power supply unit. Unplug power supply from monitor. If the green light on monitor comes on but goes out quickly, the power supply is the culprit!
