I don’t have a diagram for upgrading memory in this particular model, but it’s very easy. You can access both memory slots from the bottom of the laptop if you remove the memory cover. The cover is located in the middle, right beside the fans. All you have to do is remove 2 screws and remove the cover. I believe Satellite P15 memory is expandable to 2GB in both slots (Slot A + Slot B = 2GB) and you can use PC2100 DDR RAM, PC2700 memory should work too (it will run at PC2100 speed).
Check the laptop specifications before you buy new RAM module. I just discovered that different Satellite P15 models use different memory types. For example, according to Toshiba specifications Satellite P15-S409 uses PC2100 DDR memory, but Toshiba Satellite P15-S479 uses PC2700 DDR memory (I think it might be a typo, but not really sure).
it wouldn't be worth your time because you would need a new system board also. replacing a system board in a laptop is dicey because they don't always fit inside the case of a laptop. it would be significantly easier to just purchase a new laptop.
If it's running vista, there could be an issue where the infcache.1 file is getting corrupted, and a specific microsoft fix to address this. Otherwise it could be that your machine actually has a physical problem of USB ports not working, which means it needs to be serviced.
2.5" Mobile drive for notebooks. Will work with your Satellite P15-S479.

It can be fixed but it means removing the original power socket and replacing it with a new one. The socket is usually soldered to the motherboard so the whole laptop has to be dismantled. Most people wouldnt even attempt to repair it and would probably change the motherboard. The socket is available here: http://www.computercare.ca/product.php?productid=16269 If you can find someone to do the job.
