Try to uninstall it and reinstall. if still the same check your systems antivirus and firewall setting that might be stopping the Yahoo Messenger from opening. But make sure that you are connected to the internet because Yahoo Messenger won't work without internet.

Well yahoo messenger is a chat platform, friend. If you want to talk someone just create an account with yahoo.com after you creating an account...download yahoo messenger...after downloading. Click the icon of the yahoo messenger...then open and click install...click next next if the installation prompt you to proceed...finish
start chatting: double click the yahoo messenger icon into your desktop enter your yahoo ID and password to start
locate chat on the dropdown list...select any country you want...enter a room click it then click on the name of the person you want to chat..that's it...start talking now
