Have a 65inch Mitsubishi DLP. acouple years old, just heard a loud pop,smelled like it was burning,it turns on but just sound????

Yes I would get it checked before driving again..

I would first remove the lamp and look to see it is intact and not shattered inside.

you need a new lamp

Check your lamp. This is a common problem in projections. Sometimes there is a lamp door and two screws holding it in. you can physically see if it is bad. itll be shattered or have rings aorund it. anything that doesnt look right. If your lamp is fine then you may have blown a fuse or diode or ic chip..theres really a lot to go wrong. I would then take it to a repair shop.

Bulb may have popped. Cheapest fix, unless your an electrician it the only thing to really try before replacing set.

Well it sounds like a sound I have heard... forgetting that I had a cigarette lighter in my pocket and having it explode from the heat in the dryer. But you say you heard two loud pops?

Once everything cools down, check again and report back... does the dryer not turn on at all? Does the light come on when you open the door? Does it buzz when you push the start button? Stuff like that.

Following up on my Feb 7 post. My new lamp arrived, and I replaced it and it works great. The old lamp had many shards of glass come out of it. It was tore up. I saved some money buy purchasing just the lamp and not the cartridge. It's a little bit more work to take apart, but saves money. Mitsubishi wanted $289 for the lamp replacement kit. I got a lamp for $114. TV is working just fine now!
