The Laser Lens may just need a good clean but it's more than likely that the Laser has failed.

Take the case off and then the cover off the CD Tray. With a QTip and some lens cleaner give the lens a clean and leave it to dry. (Don't touch it with your fingers).

My LG cd player will indicates "no disc" even if there is a disc inserted

Hello
Insert a lens cleaning disc into it, and play it at least three times, after eject the inserted disc. You can buy this cleaning disc from most of the electronic spare part selling shops at your town. If the fault is due to accumulation of dust or dirt on the focussing lens, the cleaner disc will clean it, and your set will be alright.
If this does not help you, make sure that the laser pickup unit of your device is faulty. Replace it with same type and number. OK.

I tried to record a dvd and was unsucessful. Now the player won't work. I insert a disc and I can hear the player trying to read the disc. After three tries an error message is displayed saying:...

Hello
It seems that the Laser Pickup unit has some troouble with it. Just inser an audio CD and see whether the player reads the disc. If it reads, try with an MP3 disc. If these tow types of discs go with and not with DVD disc, make sure that the Laser Pickup Unit has the trouble. It has to be replaced with same type and number. Actually this is a very skilled work, as you have to disassemble and reassemble the DVD mechanism If you have confidence, and have all tools to do this work, you can do it by yoursef. Otherewise, get this set repaired, either by any experienced service technician, or by the Authorised Service Center for Panasonic at your town, I recomend you to get this set repaired by its authorised service center itself. OK.

I buy a used technics sl-pg480a cd player and after i inserted a cd, there is "no disc" on display...i try with different cd's (mp3, avi,...) and it's always the same...i have opened a box and...

If it doesn't turn the disc it can't read the data and 'know' from that there is a compatible disc inserted.

You may have gotten hosed by the seller. Until you get it to play with a commercial music CD I wouldn't try anything non-standard or home-grown. It doesn't play anything but CD-A music so MP3 and AVI discs would not be recognized anyway.

Before you dive in and possibly wreck it, read this...

The player cannot read the data on the CD. The laser maybe dirty or defective. Before sending for repair try to use a disk cleaner.
