My turntable does not turn

The turntable motor in the microwave oven needs to be replaced.

GE microwave oven squeals as carousel is rotating. Noise stops in a minute or so but begins anew when the unit is used again.

If it is the wheel on the turntable that squeels, wash the turntable in strong solution of washing up liquid and water.
If it does it without a turntable fitted, change the turntable motor.

Replacing the turntable motor.

The motor assembly is fixed to the base of the oven usually with two screws and access i obtained by removing the inspection plate directly beneath the motor. It is usally a plug in synchronus motor that revolves at a few revs per minute but the plastic cogs in the motors gear box fail and the motor assembly must be replaced. They are fairly inexpensive and obtainable usually from a domestic appliance repair shop.
If you feel confident, disconnect it from the mains power, remove anything in the cavity and turn it upside down if it is a tabletop model, a little more complicated if it is built in!
Remove the inspection plate and disconnect the motor. Remove the motor and go and get a new one. Re fit it and put the microwave back in its position. Plug it back in, with the turntable and plate. Put a cup of water on the plate inside of the oven and heat for 20 seconds to check the plate goes round.
Hope this helps.

Cookworks microwave oven with grill and convection model cmx60 - I need new glass turntable unable to sourced bought from Argus about three years ago please help.

Microwave turntables are in several sizes

Here are a couple of sources for them. What you have to take note of is the wheel tray also. You may get the right size turntable and not fit the wheel tray. Manufacturer is not as important as the size and tray fitting.

This one seems a bit small at 10 inches but as your microwave is only 800 Watts it may just be the correct one :

The paint (or whatever it is covering the bottom)

Check the 3 wheels on the circular plastic part that's fitted below the turntable.
It sounds like they may need some filing down. Run your fingers around the wheels to see if there are any sharp bits of plastic that could be cutting into the paintwork on the base.

Clean out the base of your oven and apply a thin film of vaseline to each of the 3 wheels. This will help rotation in future.
Remember to keep cleaning out any excess food particles that may lodge below the turntable, as these will eventually slow down or stop the rotation, which in turn means that your food is not heated evenly throughout!!!

Turntable wheel under glass tray broken

If the microwave comes with a roller ring to rotate the glass turntable then I would recommend that it needs to be used when the microwave is operating, as the turntable rotates the food so it can be heated evenly.

I would recommend checking with your local Panasonic repairer he may have access to a new roller or even a second hand one to tide you over.

Turntable 'ring' has little wheels are all worn flat on one side and it will not turn.

MicrowaveSvc - Thank you so very much for coming back to me re the worn down wheels on the turntable ring. Fortunately however, I managed to buy three of these rings, all different sizes and tied together, in a junk shop for 10cents!! My husband then cunningly removed the wheels from the one that were most like ours and placed them onto our ring. Hope this makes sense. The microwave is now working perfectly, necessity being the mother of invention! I will take note of this site however!! Thanks once again for your interest in a microwave turntable ring in a motorhome in New Zealand!

Microwave turntable won't turn

You may have a tunrtable motor or spindle problem..
This info is from GE website..( link : http://genet.geappliances.com/geasearch/Dispatcher?REQUEST=GETSEARCHRESULT

To minimize the possibility of electric shock, unplug this appliance from the power supply before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Make sure the turntable is centered and seated properly. On models with a stirrer motor there is a shaft protruding up through the floor of the microwave. Make sure the turntable is securely fastened to this shaft. On models that turn on a ring with wheels attached, make sure the turntable is seated securely on the ring.
  • Check the turntable to make sure it is placed right side up. If the turntable plate is upside down it will drag on the floor of the microwave.
  • Check to make sure that there is no food or debris under the "wheels" of the turntable ring. Food can prevent the wheels from moving forward.
  • Be certain you are pressing a cook function rather than a timer function.
  • If the microwave has a turntable on/off feature make sure the turntable was not inadvertently turned off. Try depressing the turntable on/off pad to re-engage the turntable.
