I guess you could use the mobile-network?

Settings > Network & Wifi

There you will find something like mobile network / mobile-traffic or something, I havee a norwegian phone, so I don't know what it is called on the enligsh versions.

Hello,

you need to reinstall the operating system (os) of your phone to solve this problem.

Install sony erricson software updater on your computer. (http://www.sonyericsson.com/update/?lc=en&cc=gb)
Connect your phone to your computer with USB cord.
Make sure the computer is internet connected.
Also, make sure your battery is fully charged.
Lunch the Sony Erricson updater software
Read and follow instruction on the web updater
Your phone must not be disconnected in the process
After the updater process, you phone should be back to normal operation.
The old software on your phone will be formatted and a newer one will be reinstalled.

I also have an xperia x10 with the same problem - i've updated from 1.6 to 2.1 with no issues back when 2.1 first came available. Now updating to 2.3 causes the same symptoms as the origonal poster.
