There is to different ones: Conexant or Realtek.

You can probably find the name
of the driver in the device manager.

It can vary from laptop to laptop despite them having the same make/model number but I think it could be Conexant HD-Audio SmartAMC HD2. The official HP support pages should be able to provide you with more details once you input the correct model or serial number.

Driver issue? Reinstall driver. If still nothing, do a system restore to a date before the issue materialized. If still nothing then drop in an external audio card and see if that works. If still nada then something is wrong with the audio circuits of your computer.

However you can get very cheap a usb audio gizmo that has a speaker output. Had same issue - plug speakers into gadget and you have audio back without having to get a new mo bo.

We do not say that the hard drive is damage maybe the IDE was faulty already. You may open your laptop and check the hard drive. Try to replace the IDE to check if the hard drive is good.

Hello there:
you have a couple of options here
first go to control panel>>system> hardware manager.
right click on the sound and audio device update driver.
let windows find the driver, and install it. and if this doesent work
i highly recommend dowloading vinal ac 97 this is a free audio suite that features a mixer device and a eqalizer that gives the sound a boost i use it in a lot of the computers that i repair for people ok
