Hi, my Samsung HT-X30 home cinema system has an intermittent audio problem. I use it mostly as a radio via my virgin media box with the Samsung input set to "Digital In". However unless I have the volum up high sound only comes out of left speaker and even when volume set at 20+ the sound is intermittent from right speaker. Is this correctable or do I need a new system? It's about 5 years old and was fine when new.

I seen the same thing when I first opened mine except my "center" speaker wan't working. It had to do with the "Mode" it was in. The Mode button at the botoom of the remote changes the speaker configuration.

There is also an option in the setup that allows you to turn on/off speakers for the system, all of mine were either Present or Small which enables them to work.

Turn on the HT with no DVD. Press the following buttons on the remote: ENTER 8, 4, 2, 6, 9 ENTER 
It will turn off. When turned again on it is a region free HT.

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.
