There are few possible issues here. (I assume the voicemail indicator isn't working rather than the answering machine indicator.) 1) The signal that indicates the new voicemail is different (thus doesn't match the one the phone is looking for) or is giving the stutter tone to another phone number. Make sure that you have set up the voicemail service by contacting ACN for the new voicemail number and how to set it up in your area.
2) The indicator is turned off. To check this and turn it on: Press Menu/Select when the handset is in idle mode. Use the up/down arrows to select CLR VoiceMail menu and press
Menu/Select. Press Menu/Select to change the setting or press Off/Clear
to cancel.
3) The Voicemail service is not compatible with the 1740 system.
The answering machine indicator will only blink for new messages. If it is an old message (played once), then just the number of messages are displayed.
The manual for the TL74108 is available from AT&T: http://telephones.att.com/att/index.cfm/product-support/manuals/ . The direct link is: http://att.vtp-media.com/ecp/documents/product_Product/188/UserManual/952/TL74108_manual_I6.pdf .
I hope this helps.

Hi,
You can try reset your phone,
Turn
off the phone, remove the AC adapter, press and hold the page/call
button that is on the phone and plug back your Ac adapter, see if this fix the problem.

I do not have a page/call button on my phone, so I can't get my problem solved. For years we have the red alert button flash when we had a message received, when we were not at home, since going with ACN recently we no longer have that (alert) we would like to know when we had a message received when not at home.
