Are you using Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7? Your whole computer is slow or it's just IE8?
Try disabling toolbars for your IE8. To do that press ALT+V then on toolbars uncheck items that you don't use, leave this 4 items checked "Favorites", "Command Bar", "Status Bar" and "Lock the toolbars".

First, open your Internet Options. Delete all temp files and history files.
