However, if this machine is running XP, or earlier, beware. It is no longer supported, and hackers will be looking for these machines to infect. I recommend you get a newer machine, or don't try to get on the Internet with this one.

You can only restore to factory settings if there is a recovery console stored on a hidden partition
(try CTRL+F11) at start-up--otherwise need to reinstall the OS with a disk.
There are a few things that can cause this problem. Lets go through a few things to help narrow it down and possibly solve the problem.
Check to make sure there are no CD's, USB drives or Floppy discs in your computer.
Check to make sure your hard drive is listed and set to be the first boot device in your BIOS. You can do this usually by holding down F2 when your computer starts. Then finding the "Boot Options" or "Boot Device Order" menu. Make sure there is a hard drive listed, usually will say something like PATA, SATA, IDE and set that hard drive to the first position in the boot order list, save and exit.
If this does not fix the issue you can try to do a "Repair Installation" of windows using a Windows Installation disc (not the restore discs that come bundled with a computer). This procedure will reinstall important Windows system files that can become corrupted and cause these kind of problems to happen. Note: this will be the second repair option from the windows disc you do not want to choose to enter the "Recovery Console" these two tend to get confused for one another sometimes.
If that doesn't work you may need to replace your computer's hard drive as it may have failed in some way.

If your not familiar with the insides of your cpu. You can purchase an external cd/dvd/rw drive and hook it up. usually with a usb or supplied cable. To install depending on type and brand just follow the instruction that come with it. They do work very well.

hi, you may need to set your laptop to boot from the cd/dvd. you will need to enter the bios and check the boot priority. power the laptop as soon as you power on press either F2 or F10 to enter the bios (you have to be pretty quick with the F2 button). once in the bios look for the heading BOOT or BOOT PRIORITY F5 or F6 willchange the boot order.

Yes you can use a disk which is used for reformatting the system just like you can reinstall the windows in your system.

But after installing the windows in the system you you have also need to install all the Motherboard Drivers in the system. If you have a Motherboard Drivers C.D. with you...fine...But if not have a Motherboard C.D. don't afraid at all.....you can find all the available Motherboard Drivers from the Website of HP.
