SOURCE: Little Giant stopped working; makes hum noise but wont push wate

Can you take it out of where it is and clean it with vinegar? There may be calcium built up in it. I have one also on my aquarium and when I turn it off sometimes it won't start back up, just humms.. That tells me it's time to clean it.

SOURCE: I want to replace an impeller for a Little Giant submersible pump

This is a plastic impeller on a brass hub. If the impeller is loose it is probally cracked or overheated and melted, ether way you will have to break the impeller off of the hub then you will need to break hub loose from shaft. You can do this by putting pump in a vise and putting a pair of vice grips on hub and giveing them a sharp hit in a counter clockwise direction. you will need to replace the seal and impeller and should check to be sure than you can get these parts before you start.

SOURCE: little giant pump stopped working

Hi Tom (and Lindsay?),

Ok lets get a little more info,

  1. Plugged in? (Have to ask)
  2. Does it run and not pump?
  3. Does not run?
  4. Tried moving the float switch?
  5. Pull the pump and see if the intakes are clogged

I have a Little Giant 6CIA submersible pump for about 3 years now, used once an in a trap in the basement waiting for a flood. Tried to test it today submersed and it would not work, banged it around a...

This pump works off of a pressure switch. You can remove the cover on the switch located on the side of the pump. You can either buy a switch repair kit, or you can open it up and take a look and see if the diaphragm is sticking. If you remove and clean the parts, you may have some success. Or, just buy the switch repair kit from your local Little Giant dealer. Good luck!

My new Little Giant 8-CBA Pump is hooked up underwater and plugged in. Not a sound. Electricity is working. And it's the same pump we have had for the last 7 years.

You say it's new? On some pumps they will secure the float switch when shipping. Be sure you followed directions and removed anything that may interfere with the switch.

I have the Little Giant pump and it seems like the motor is humming but no water is pumping. I took the bottom off and cleaned what I could. It's only a few years old and used to work great.

Hi,

Either the pump or the motor has seized up...
You need to take the motor off and figure out which it is....
then you can figure out if the pump is bad (bad bearing)
or if the motor has gone bad...
