We have an Amana refrigerator, bottom freezer, Model ARB2259CW, PARB 2259CWO. It is only 7 years old (warranty is 5 yrs.) and the compressor went and it is a TECHUMSEH. From reading some of your website write in this compressor not good. We want to write Amana for repair costs of $792.61 due to a unreliable compressor. Do you have any research we could use to convince them of a bad compressor. We have the address and all that just need some big guns. Thanks, Ronnie Garcia E-mail: [email protected]

SOURCE: Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

SOURCE: amana bottom freezer problem

It sounds like the condenser coil might be freezing up. This happened to me on my bottom freezer. The cooling part of your fridge is only in the back of the freezer compartment. The cold air from the freezer blows up through a vent in the back to the fridge and comes out at the top. If the coils do not defrost (which is what happened with mine) the air flow is blocked by the ice and can't get to the fridge compartment. Your freezer will still be cold but your fridge won't. If you pull the plug on it and time things right you can defrost the coils but this will only postpone the problem. Both will work for awhile again until the coils ice up again. You can also pull out the freezer drawere and try to defrost the coil with a blow dryer. You have to disconnect the icemaker and pull out the back panel behind the freezer to get to it though.

SOURCE: Bad capacitor/relay or compressor?

that is most likely a relay. Does the unit get cold while running?

Testimonial: "Thank you for your quick reply. Keeping fingers crossed it's only the relay."

Computer board went out. when you remove the computer it has a black mark behind it on the plastic housing. how long is the warranty on the comperssor of this refridgerator?

the compressor usually has 5 year warranty in fact the sealed sytem itself which includes the compressor .evap coil and usually the condenser coil has 5 years... the boards usually only have a 1 year parts warranty or up to a 5 year parts warranty but after the 1st year you are responsible for the labor on the board....the compressor though should be covered through amana for 5 years total cost... good luck to you....

4 year old amana refidge bottom freezer died on me yesterday. Is their a 5 yr waaranty

You would have to look at your original warranty paperwork to be sure but I would doubt it. Most of Amana's refrigerators only come with a one year warranty. Even if it is a five year warranty you will most likely have to show a proof of purchase and pay a service fee for the tech to come out.

I have a 7 year old Amana bottom freezer fridge model ARB2259CW. The freezer seems like it's freezing just fine, but the fridge is either not blowing any air or blowing very little air. Things in the...

if you can hear a fan blowing in the freezer that is probably not the problem. If it is at all possible could you clear out the fridge overnight. If so, do so, unplug refrigerator with doors open overnight and plug it in in the morning. If it returns to cooling you probably have a defrost problem, but you at least have a couple days to fix it.

Refrig and freezer not getting cold

HI, Can you hear the compressor running? Does it click like something is trying to start but can't? It sounds like the compressor is not running. The compressor should have a 5 year warranty. They are having problems with these compressors so, you might want to call Amana and see if it is under warranty. I hope this gives you some help. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks

Freezer Quit working

Hi, That clicking noise is the relay/overload trying to start the compressor. Is this under 5 years old?
They have had a lot of problem with these. I might suggest you calling Amana and inquire about the warranty.
If the warranty has expired, you can try to replace the relay kit.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks

Amana bottom frezzer refrigerator

Gazzo, You are on the right track. I've been finding a lot of compressor failures on these Amana's. It's possible that the overload and relay for the compressor failed, but Im more inclined, from what I've seen, that the compressor is the problem. The compressor is covered under warranty, parts and labor for 5 years. I would call for warranty service...Catriver...post back.
