There is a movable plastic slide switch on the side of the memory card, and it can be moved to the lock postion. Slide it the other way to unlock it.
If it's already in the unlock position, clean the contact legs with a qtip and alcohol, or a pencil eraser.
Other than that, the memory card could be bad. Try another one, if you have one.
If nothing works, the unit may have to be serviced. Take it into a local repair shop for an estimate and assessment, or contact the manufacturer's support site.

You didn't specify the make and model of your camera, so I'm assuming it uses SD cards.

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Memory card error message on a canon powershot A700

On an SD card there is a switch at the side which can be moved to protect the card contents (locked) or permit writing to the card (unlocked). Just move this to the unlocked position.

Upon turning on my camera the message 'lens error restart camera' appears against black screen. I've turned off the camera and have tried turning on again. Still same message. Prior to the above...

Can't help with the camera- sounds like it has a fault.

The photos, however, should be recoverable by putting the memory card into a card reader on a computer.

CARD LOCKED appears oo screen, camera wont work?

Does this camera take a memory card, separate from the built-in memory of the camera? If so, remove that memory card and look closely at all sides and edges, to make sure that there is not a read-only protection switch on it.
Many of these memory cards have tiny switches, sliders back and forth, that protect the memory from being erased.
If you slid that switch into the locked position without being aware that it is there, and without knowing that you did, then the error message makes sense.
Remove the memory card and look at it very carefully.

Cant take photos and the LCD screen says "Memory card is locked. Slide lock to 'write' position"

I don't own this camera but My guess is your memory card is in a LOCK SETTING you need to move the memory card to unlocked " wrirte " so you memory card isn't locked.....
Step 1 remove the card from you're camera
Step 2 there is a small little side on the side of the memory chip move that to the unlock position.
step 3 insert the card and start shooting!
