I have a 1 1/2 HP Magnum Force Pump by Jacuzzi. After making some strange grinding noise, I opened it up to find lots of white powdery material flaking off where the Seal Housing (#18) meets the motor (#27). 1. Could it be the Mechanical Seal (#16) that has disintegrated? 2. How do I go about removing the 9/16" nut by holding down the impeller (#15)? Does it unscrew clockwise or counter-clockwise? 3. Should I be inspecting anything else other than replacing all the items included in the rebuilding kit? I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you, Gian

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Yes, the seal has been leaking and it needs to be replaced; probably the motor bearings too.

Removing the impeller requires you lock the shaft as you turn the impeller off counter-clockwise. To lock the impeller you will have to remove the motor end cover or a cap covering the shaft end depending on which version your particular motor has. Look at the end opposite the pump and imagine a shaft from one end to the other right in the center.

Once you remove the cover you will see a slot for a screwdriver, a flat for a wrench, a hex hole for a hex key or some combination of these. Lock the shaft and spin off the impeller. Some are so tight you will end up breaking them in the process. Simply replace it and the seal. Be sure the motor shaft is in good enough condition to allow the new seal to work properly. If too much shaft material has rotted away the new seal will leak soon after it is installed; you would need a new motor at that point.

Pool pump running low psi

your pump should be just fine once the water starts flowing again. You may have run it too long without enough water to cool the seal.
If it is leaking water between the Jacuzzi Pump housing and the motor then you will need a new pump seal. Those are common pool parts.

How to change the seals on a jacuzzi magnun force 1 hp pool pump

Hi,
If you haven't already figured out how to change the seals on your Jacuzzi Magnum Force pump, I can help by supplying a diagram.
Here is the parts explosion for that pump.
Start by removing the case/basket assembly, then the diffuser to get to the impeller. Loosen the impeller to get to the seal plate.
When going to the trouble of changing the shaft seals one should change all the hosing seals at the same time because its a lot of work.

I would like to know the noise level of a jacuzzi magnum pump 1.00 hp in decibels.

This is not possible as it completely depends on the amount of total dynamic head the pump is connected to as well as the voltage level that is being applied.

Jacuzzi Magnum Force Pump not working

The number one problem is air leaks.......check all connections to see that they are tight, and rubber seals. The intake side would give you trouble with air leaks. If you dont find any leaks then I would pull the pump cover and check the impellor. Pool stores have parts and lots of knowledge.

Do Magnum Force Pumps have a reset switch ?

No jacuzzi magnums do not have a reset button. First make sure breaker to pool is off, then remove rear motor cover, and take a look. Popping noise sounds like an arked wire. Could be a bad terminal or just aloose power wire. JACUZZI PUMPS ARE GOOD QUALITY, AND USSUALLY RUN FOR MANY YEARS. Pump can be removed for repaair, or motor replacemant by a qualified, and republe pool shop, for rebuilding Ussually rebuilding is about half the cost of new. Kirk
