Singer sewing machine - hand wheel

On my singer the hand wheel has a smaller wheel inside the larger hand wheel that you push/pivet to release the hand wheel so you can use the bobbin winder, which I have done successfully.

I then snapped the smaller wheel back into place and away I go. The needle moves up an down for about 10-15 stitches and then the smaller wheel pops back into the bobbin winding position. I've used this machine many, many times and never had this happen.

And, of course, I'm right in the middle of a huge sewing project. Can you help?

SOURCE: Bobbin won't wind

I have checked the gears underneath and see no missing teeth for the bobbin part. The bobbin "seat" does raise, but does not engage. Thanks

SOURCE: my singer athena 2000 won't

I think if you watch the hook as you turn the wheel you will see that it is not moving. If it's not moving it can't pick up the thread or sew or wind the bobbin. If you really like this machine you can take it to a technician who is going to tell you you have a broken gear.Always have them replaced in pairs. On this machine there are 2 gears( 1 Pair) on the left and 2 gears( 1 Pair) on the right. If the machine is making buzzing noises, replace the machine instead of the gears. Singer makes a nice machine which sells for around $300 which will do more than the one you have and it is easier to use. Look at Model 7467. I sell quite a few of these and they don't give me or my customers problems.

SOURCE: Bobbin won't wind Singer 7422

Your problem lies with the main shaft that is to tight to release the bobbin winder mechanism, because of old grease and oil becoming sticky. A short term solution will be to remove the needle, in order not to hurt you, and then hold on to the needle bar with your left hand, while engaging the bobbin lever with your left hand. This will prevent the main shaft to rotate and your winder should work. In the long term, take it to your dealer to clean the oil and grease. You will not be able to open the machine casing yourselve, as you might damage the casing and or electronics.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Hand wheel spins without moving the needle

I used to have an old Bernina that had an inner and outer hand wheel. Loosening the inner wheel disconnected the needle bar from the motor so you could wind the bobbin without running the needle up and down. It sounds to me like your machine has the same feature, but resistance on the needle makes the inner wheel loosen up. I don't know whether wrenching on it as tight as you can would be enough, or whether this is a symptom indicating that there is something loose internally in the connection between the inner and outer wheels. Good luck!

SOURCE: Singer 6267 self winding bobbin winds around shaft under

I just figured out why my bobbine was winding on shaft instead of on the bobbin. first of all make sure the bobbin is setting up high enough, top of bobbin needs to be a fraction higher then the bobbin shuttle, next check to make sure there are no burrs on the bobbin, then make sure that the thear is catching in the groove (**** in top) of the bobbin. In order to get mine to wind i had to lett the tread go down and then slip the thread in the groove. also remember to leave the pressure foot up do not put it down. let me know if this helps.

How to wind a bobbin singer merrit 3130

To wind a bobbin on the 3130, first raise the presser foot and bring the needle to the highest point in its travel cycle. Next hold the outside of the hand wheel with one hand. While holding the outside of the hand wheel, turn the knob inside the hand wheel towards yourself (counter-clockwise if you face the right side of the sewing machine). Make sure that the spool of thread is on the spool pin with the spool's thread retaining notch to the right. Put the appropriate spool holder on the spool pin. Snap the thread into the thread guide in to the left of the spool holder. Lift the top cover to expose the bobbin winding mechanism. Snap the thread into the bobbin winder tension disc by wrapping it around the front of the disc and then bringing it back towards the bobbin winding spindle. The bobbin winder tension disc is to the left of the top cover. Put the thread through the hole in the bobbin from the center of the bobbin. Keep the hole up and put the bobbin on the spindle. Push the spindle to the right. Hold the thread above the bobbin and start the machine. After a few rotations, you can let go and cut this part of thread. Restart the sewing machine and let it finish winding the bobbin. Once the bobbin is full, move the spindle to the left and remove the bobbin from the spindle. Cut the spool thread to release the bobbin to put it in the bobbin case. Hold the hand wheel and turn the inner knob away from yourself.

Singer has most of their manuals available here: https://www.singer.com/support . The current link to the Merrit 3130 manual is https://res.cloudinary.com/singer-sewing/image/upload/fl_attachment/Singer-Website-Library/outdated_product/SINGER_244_288_588_875_972_974_1195_3130_3140_3145_and_3150_Sewing_Machines.pdf .See page 23 (page 25 of the PDF) for the pictures for winding a bobbin.

I hope this helps.

I have an old Singer 301A. the Hand wheel while is turning both directions does not engage with the Horizontal arm shaft. I oiled the machine very well but nothing moves!! Help please. Thank you

Make sure the “clutch” is not engaged. The smaller silver wheel needs to be locked in. Hold the large handwheel and tighten the smaller wheel.

Singer One Sewing machine purchased new about 6 months ago..

You may need the assistance of a store than works on sewing machines. Or - try Pushing really hard to re-engage the hand wheel. Good luck. PS - do not let the repair guy adjust your machine. Most men do not sew, ergo they make a mess of all adjustments.

How do I add thread to the bobbin on Singer sewing machine 3114?

Your repair shop will have to fix the handwheel, but you can still wind your bobbin. UNTHREAD the machine completely, and take the needle out. Set up your thread to wind the bobbin, and push the winder over until it clicks. Wind your bobbin. I don't have a picture of your model; this is just standard.

Singer CG500 Needle hits the needle plate. Needle was replaced. Verified needle in correctly. Tried hand wheel - still hits. Machine has yet to be used!!

Unless you need all the bells and whistles to sew get you a pre-1930 treadle or handcrank. I have 2 electric Singers, 1947 model 66 and 1948 201-2 both with attachments. Also I have 1903 Singer handcrank made in Scotland. The plastic new one just don't have the ability to hang in there .... All my pre 1930 Singers sew... I love them!

Why is my singer SEWING MACHINE prelude HAND WHEEL RESISTING

Make sure the bobbin winder is in the position away from the bobbin stopper. When you fill a bobbin, you have to push the "spindle" towards the handwheel. If you do not push the "spindle" back into position (away from the handwheel), the wheel will remain locked.
