You have both the fax machine and the answering machine on the same phone line.
The fax machine and the answering machine are set to answer in a certain number of rings.
In your case the fax machine is set to answer the line in less rings than the answering machine. You have to increase the number of rings of your fax so that the answering machine will work.

Change the answer machine rings to answer number to less than the fax number of rings to answer or increase the number of rings to answer on the fax machine. Would need exact model number of phone system to give more detail on programming steps. Info should be in manuals of phone system and fax machine.

You need to go in and adjust the "Off Hook" setting so that it does not pick up the ring cycle before the answer machine does.

Next you have to find the instructions that will allow your phone answer machine to tell your fax machine that there is data for it.

More often than not this is accomplished by setting a software switch for example press number 4 to send me a fax. The answer machine in turns wakes up the fax machine and allow the connection to proceed.

It all in those books that came with your products. I know you keep them neatly filed away for instant retrieval, just the the rest of us do. :)

Cant receive a fax now . Only thing that has

The new phone change is exactly what's effecting your fax receiver, plus, the automatic answer feature takes over before the printers fax answerer can pick. I'm assuming that you can fax out. You need to check the operators book of the telephone to see what settings need changed to add a fax machine. (four-in-one)

Fax machine rings but fax doesn't come thru at times unless we actually pick up another phone and make a call, at that time the fax comes thru. At other times if we are on the phone, (different from the...

The instruction manuals of fax machines are typically large and complex books. Often there are many options to consider. Mostly the machines can be used successfully without much reference to the manual but when there is a problem the question machine or operator fault can only be determined by thoroughly reading it.

To a large extent whether a fax call is picked up or not depends on the settings (including answering machine), the quality of the phone line and connection and the machine sending the fax as well as the receiving machine.

My fax machine will mostly automatically receive a fax but it seems to miss the important ones and I have to answer the ringing phone, hear the fax tone and press the manual fax button.

I strongly suspect the problem mostly lies with the sending machines - if they are fax machines the results were much better than from a computer being used as a fax machine and while a fax machine will send a receipt, a computer doesn't seem capable of doing so.

I can't figure out how to set up my fax machine so it won't mess up my phone and answering machine either.

Telephone wire goes to fax, out to answer machine, Important to set fax on answer machine mode and set the ring count to pick up AFTER the telephone answer machine. Set fax ring count to 5 rings, and answering machine to 3 or 4. When some one calls answer machine or you pick up first, then if no one will leave a msg. fax tones are different than voice tones, they are called CNG tones. Most new fax machine will sense this and if a fax will go to fax only. Ring count is the key. Also you could set fax up for maual mode and would not jump to anser machine or fax till you want.....good luck

VOICE MAIL AND FAX

The short answer is no. The JX200 will work with an answering machine because it "listens in" when the answering machine picks up a call. It can't "listen in" to voice mail, because the voice mail is handled by your phone service.

Setting the voicmail

Voicemail or telephone answering device (TAD). There is a BIG difference. Voicemail is product of your telephone service provider. If you have voicemail, most providers have a solution to this that you must arrange through them. If you have an answering machine, you can set your Brother to TAD mode. In TAD mode, if your answering machine picks up, (you must set your answering machine to answer in less rings than your fax), your fax will "eavesdrop" to listen for the fax tones from the sending machine. If it hears these tones, it will disconnect your answering machine and accept the incoming fax. If it does not hear the tones, it allows the answering machine to record the incoming message. If you are home. If you answer the call and hear a tone every 2.5 to 3 seconds, that signals an incoming fax. Simply touch *51 on the keypad of the phone you picked up on. You will hear some shrill tones. That is your fax machine attempting to receive the incoming fax. Hang up the phone you are on and it will receive the fax. In any case, make sure that the receive mode is NOT set to AUTO. Set the receive mode to TAD or MANUAL. If these instructions were not clear enough, let me know and I will send you DETAILED instructions.
