I have a question about my Pioneer DVDRW DVR-K17B ATA Device. I recently updated my HP dv6899ei laptop with windows vista home premium and my cd/dvd drive doesn't work anymore. I then checked my device manager and discovered a coution sign on the drive. I have tried uninstall and restarting my computer but still thesame problem. I get a cannot start code 10 message.
This is my error in report viewer for my dvdrw in laptop.
dvdrw icon is hide and it can't read any disk dvd/cd.
PLEASE HELP ME! THANKFUL
" Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code is 39. "
A sign by the side of the disk drive in device manager tells you that it is not installed correctly. You must remove all the files from the registry and then reinstall. Regeit from windows. Start, my computer, windows directory, reregedit, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE find the Software then remove. Restart computer and reinstall software.

Hi,
I clicked on "MY COMPUTER" and found that my "CD-ROM" drive is not there. I'vecontacted HP Tech Support and I was told to "re-seat" my CD-ROM drive and if that didn't work to follow the steps below.
-Start-
Step 1:- Assigning the drive letter to the CD/DVD drive.
1.Click Start, Control Panel.
2. Double click on Administrative Tools.
3.Double-click on Computer Management.
4.Click on the "+" sign beside Storage to expand the list.
5.Click once on Disk Management.
6.On the right hand side the DVD/CD drive will be listed as "CD-ROM 0".
7.Right click on the drive and select Change Drive Letter.
8.Click on Add if there is not drive letter assigned or click on Change if there is already a drive letter assigned.
9.Change the drive letter from the pull down and click Ok.changed to 'E' drive .Please check in my computer if the cd/dvd drive is present.
Step 2: Deleting UpperFilter and LowerFilter Registry Keys
1. Click Start and click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.
3. Click the plus (+) sign beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
4. Click the plus (+) sign beside System.
5. Click the plus (+) sign beside Current Control Set.
6. Click the plus (+) sign beside Control.
7. Click the plus (+) sign beside Class.
8. Locate the {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} key and click it.
9. On the File menu, click Export.
10. In the File name box, type savedkey and click Save. It is better to save the "savedkey" to the desktop.
11. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters (found in right window pane) and then click Delete on the Edit menu.
12. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
NOTE: If this data type is missing, continue to the next method.
13. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters (found in right window pane) and click Delete on the Edit menu.
14. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
15. Quit the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
Step 3: Uninstall and Reinstall the Device drivers :
1. Press Windows Key + R key
2. This opens the Run window Type devmgmt.msc and hit enter key.
3. You will get device manager
4. Click "+" beside CD/DVD Device Catagory.
5. Right-click the listed CD/DVD/RW and select Uninstall.
Scan for the HARDWARE Changes.
I recommend you to perform with the steps to get the issue fixed.
-End-
Following the steps above fixed the issue the first time. But now I have the same problem again. HP has told me that I will probably need a new CD-ROM drive... What a surprise that my CD-ROM will need replacement after the 1-yr warranty expires! I have taken care of my laptop ever since I bought it and now after the warranty, some how it stops working? I don't believe that.
My correct product info:
HP Pavillion Notebook
Model: dv6338se
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
>>>Disregard what it says as my product below for I have only choosen it so I can complete this post. Overwise, it would not allow me to complete. Kept on telling me to "Please enter a valid product"<<<
Please, if you know how I can permanently fix this issue, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

If you have iTunes installed on your computer, try uninstalling it. It worked on mine. If anyone knows how to have both (a functioning CD drive and iTunes) let me know. :)
