check power plug at base is plugged in and turned on at power point ( this has happened twice in last two days on my phone base power pack - by others unplugging it)
Check line cord at base unit is plugged in too
base phone not working suggests no power on base and phones battery has gone flat .
Yes, that is normal for all cordless phones. they are really just a radio that sends a signal from the base/charger to the cordless hand set. when the power goes off the base does not work at all. Go buy yourself a cheap corded phone, and when power goes off plug it into any wall phone jack and then you can make calls.
I do not know anything about the LG LX370 phone but I have NEVER seen a cell phone that works with no battery.
A phone is a transmitter and requires a lot of power when it is in a call. This power cannot be transmitted down the thin cable and connector that you use to charge the phone so it uses the power from the battery.
You need the battery in for the phone to work, the power cord input should only provide a current limited charge for charging the battery.
Most chargers are rated at about 5V and a maximum of 500mA, a phone can require well in excess of 1Amp when in a call.
First try a new phone cord and a different phone. Are all items attached to one jack with one phone number? If you have multiple jacks, check if the phone works on another jack. If you have separate phone lines, check if the phone works on the computer/fax line. Check if the phone works without the other devices (particularly if daisy chained). Swap out all of the cables in the chain if it works directly.
In the multiple line case, if your phone works on one line and not the other, check if a phone works on that line at the incoming service. (If you are lucky, the incoming service has RJ-11 connections and you can test this yourself. Otherwise, you'll need a service person.) I've had several cases where mice or something broke one of two incoming phone lines outside so I just lost that one phone number. If the outside service doesn't work, call your phone company. They will fix it for free. If the outside service works, check your jack for loose wires. Check any exposed wiring in the house for damage. If the wiring isn't damaged in the exposed areas or at the jack, you'll probably need a service call (for a fee).
Checking the jack and wiring also applies if the phone works at one jack and not another.
If another phone works and the AT&T phone doesn't, check if the power adapter is plugged in and warm or cold. If the power brick is cold, then replace the power supply. The information on the type of power supply is usually listed on the bottom of the phone. Since this is a corded phone, it should work even without power, but sometimes, it won't. If the power is good to the phone, then replace the AT&T phone. Unless it's under warranty, it isn't worth getting them serviced. They aren't meant to be user serviced.
electricity went out for 10 hrs
decided to switch phones around----not phone problem
phone ok in all phone outlets in wall
it was plugged into fax machine--maybe electric power outage hurt fax phone connection for phone line
fax works fine, just can't work as did before with phone line into fax
will call brother #775 monday
all was plugged into power surge
maybe have to adjust something on fax or buy new one because of power outage????????????????
Does the phone base receiver also have power? If so, then it sounds like a phone wire may have been cut. How extensive was this electrical work? If an electrician cut your phone wire by mistake they should take care of the problem at no charge.
To eliminate any problems with your cordless phone, try plugging in a standard phone where your cordless unit is to see if the line works.
Can you test if the power adapter is working? Most problems like this on other devices I have dealt with usually stem from either a faulty connector on the adapter or on the base unit.
Its often the power adapter that goes first. If you are under guarantee, get it changed.
