37 inch sony xbr with tru surround tube tv

I have a tv of the above description, have the following issues with it. The television all of sudden will not turn on with the remote control ( cox cable or factory)

In addition the tv now displays the number "3" in the right hand upper corner, ( primary cable number) other than that it works great.

How much to fix and how much is it worth ?

I have a 50" Sony w/ Wega Engine [KF-50WE610]. The set will no longer turn on.  The green light flashes and after 30 - 45 sec. it turns flashing red and then solid red.  This has been a problem for about one year. I was told to unplug it for an hour and plug it back in. That worked, until now. Not any longer. It appears DEAD. $3,000 and less than 5 years. You pay a premium for Sony. This is the second set in 5 years to become junk. SONY- Never again!

Sony XBR 40" tube tv.

Failure of the vertical deflection module/circuit. The tv will have to be opened, the vertical deflection circuit found and replaced.
Definitely a job for a pro - the circuit is going to be extremely difficult to extract. The repair will cost you about $200: $20 for a new circuit and $90 per hour for the 2 hour job.

Sony 52 inch XBR with bands of ghosted images

Its a TAB bond Problem with the LCD. You can take apart the TV and install a rubber Bumper to put pressure on the TAB. TAB bonds always get worse... I dont know how long it will solve the issue... but u can get a little more life out of it.
Rember when working with the TV the voltages can kill!!
Heres a link to see someone fixing.
I have the same TV...same problem...common problem...unless u ask Sony.

Sony Trinitron KV36XBR300

Best thing to do is get 3-4 people to haul it to the curb. That is a high voltage failure which can be related to a bad tube or flyback. That TV is too old to get parts for and not worth spending a single dime on.

Sony 57 Inch XBR 2001

I don't have the XBR, but on my sony, using the cable box remote, I had to go into menu/display/etc. and mark the 1080i, 720p, and 480i settings. you usually get a "if you can see this" comment if your tv accepts the settings. for standard tv i set the screen to normal, and when the upper channels go to HD, they auto go to full screen. Sounds like you are using the component cable, and also make sure you are on the video port of remote, and the the TV input. The above worked for mine. Hope it helps.
