See if this helps you. the answer should be in section 14. http://jura-impressa.cz/files/files/35file.pdf
if you need additional help please let me know.
I believe that pressing and holding the N button will restore the Factory Defaults.
I've just found out that the RS-232 Port on the rear of the unit is for an MDB Interface, see link below.
http://www.brainwaves.jura.com/home_x/se...
I'm not sure if this would let you change the product descriptions but on Page 13 of the Manual their seems to be a Set Back To Factory Setting Option
Hopefully this will work this time.

You can reprogram the keys from the front panel also. Sounds like you have the manual but I have found several online with some better than others. This one seemed to be the best so far. Scroll down the screen and there is a download button for the PDF file. Section E1 gives the default keys and E14 show how to program the unit. You want to use section 14.2 to customize the system.
I will continue to look for the serial interface connection settings but so far I have not even read that it has a RS232 port.
Jim
Are you sure that this is a X9 model? They make many models including many models sporting the 9 character. None of the X9 manuals I have found and read mention anything about a RS232 connector. Is it possible the previous owner modified it to have the port to ease their programming?
Thanks, Jim
Sorry, for the previous posts, unfortuneately the way Fixya sets the website when I post my first shot I do not get access to all the other posting and this is why you ended up with so many posts to the same thing.
Since you say you are familiar with computers, have you tried the standard (sort of) settings for the port? I would suggest that 9600 and 19200 were the most popular settings for older equipment. I worked for a medical manufacturer for 21 years and many of the equipment used 19200. Also change between 7 and 8 bits and the stop bit.
I will not post any other suggestions not related to using the serial port except for one request, can you post a picture of the machine?
Thanks, Jim

Hi thedeccie,
I see you have been sent the Instructional Manual a few times now, let me see if I can still contact my contacts at Jura for proper instructions, haven't worked on one of these for years! Just give me about 48 hours, after that, if I haven't responded, reject my answer.
Hope to come back to you soon.
Regards :-)
Please visit the following site:
http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/jura/impressa_x7_1.html
Click on the above link to open the site. Here you will find the service manual for Jura Capresso Impressa X7. Click on 'Download' / "Get this manual" to download the pdf document.
Good Luck.
You can go to this link http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/jura/impressa_x7_1.html and click on GET THIS MANUAL. It will open up in adobe acrobat where you can read it and also save it to to your harddrive to read again later. There is a whole section on programming it with pictures. (it's free)
Sorry I can't locate a service manual for that machine. General rule for connection speed with these kinds of things is the slower the better, probably 9600. You could see if it gives you any kind of menu, however if it uses propriatary interface software then you won't be able to figure it out without the manual. It may bring up a terminal menu... just depends on how it was programmed. Wish I could help you more than that---
I just noticed that your original post has both the Jura X9 mentioned in two places but the x7 in the subject line. I gave you the manual for the x7. I'm not sure what you are trying to reset but here's the manual for the x9 that talks about changing settings for water hardness, times etc http://www.nl.jura.com/home_nl_x/service...
Perhaps that will help with some changes? However I still can't find any more about resetting to factory settings or reprogramming , service manual nor do I have access to that for that machine. So it still boils down to what I said above if you need to change other things---

Hello there, been trying to locate a user manual for your device to help sort your problems over the past week but the operationg instructions have been elusive online. Apparently the unit is not a common one and is also quite expensive so is not a unit to be yoyed with. Although i was able to get a link to help if you are in the USA Contact the JURAUSA/Xpresso, Inc. customer service department at their
toll free telephone number 1-800-789-4109. One of the product
technicians will discuss the difficulties that you are having with your
machine. If they cannot solve the matter over the telephone they will
make arrangements for the machine to be sent to JURAUSA/Xpresso, Inc.
Jura is one of Europe's top expresso machine companies.
Hope this solution has been helpful?
Are you check this information in the Jura X9 User Guide ? In "Settign" section
Or visit www.jura.com
Hope helps.

Hi thedeccie,
I see that you are having difficulties with the programing of your Espresso Machine.
I will be more than glad to provide you the info that you may need to reprogram your Espresso machine.
I do not have the information regarding your concern but was able to locate the manual where you can get further details and information on how to reprogram your Espresso Machine.
Try to visit this site for further details, Click the Link below.

I hope that this will be of help regarding your concern.
Have a nice day,
mvincentc
Hi Tim,
Hi Tim
I'm sorry, I didn't know that you were already directed to the manual, I see that your main concern is the upper left button which is suppose to be coffee but it is set to espresso.
On the right there is a control panel if you slide the cover up I believe the letter P will be for the settings and programming function of your Jura x9.
Once you are in the control panel Press the P button this will show you information on teh LCD panel giving you options to set the priogramming functions of each button you have, also I see that the espresso button is as well as the coffee button I guess there is just a setting that needs to be changed to enable the coffee function on that button or maybe a pattern to get the coffee functionality to be enabled using that button on the upper left.
I just am not sure on how to change the settings but from what I see in the manuals the letter P button in the control panel is where you can reprogram the buttons on your Jura X9.
I hope that this can help you more regarding you concern.
Have a nice day Tim,

Hello
I've two manuals of the Jura Impressa X9. One is about its operating instrucions and other related to its settings; Jura impressa X9win manual. I don't know will it help you or not. I can't send these to you by this sites, as it won't allow me to send large files in PDF like this. If you send your Email address to me, I'll send it to you by yahoo.Ok
Wish You A Happy Easter.
Technical data is found on page 18 of the manual http://dl.owneriq.net/2/24dceab6-61e2-49a6-bc0f-6347fa7f18e1.pdf click this link page 12 also discusses setting up the display as well if you have any further questions message me back I await your reply Thanks Rick
p.s this manual is for the x9 although i did see once you had the x7 but you wrote twice the x9 model if this is the x7 you are requiring please message me back Thanks again
Hello tim,
I went off what you wrote for the program codes this though sorry bud i dont speak tasmanian devil and have no idea what this is supposed to mean isn't nor do I know what this means either Don't so either we need an interpretur that speaks tasmanian devil to try to get the right model information from you or you need to write exactly what your asking for We also are not able to see every other techs post until after we have posted so please write me back with exactly what your looking for and I will look into it further Thanks Rick
well i guess you have opted to get the same thing instead of writing exactly what your looking for have a nice day Rick
tim no matter how many times you post from this one or that one we cant see what other techs are writeing so of course when we first start off trying to answer your vague question we would show you the manual your looking for the specific way to set it to the factory default correct so why not just call jura? Thanks again Rick
Hi tim,
I would suggest you click on this link which is the contact information for jura and call them directly rather then continue your chat further on here this way your questions will be answered by the manufacturer http://www.uk.jura.com/home_uk_x/contact... if you have any further questions message me back and thanks again Rick
and you wont find the key solution on this site you would only get that directly from jura and they wont give it to you instead they would have you send your unit in and they would do it themselves and charge you for it but then again your looking for a way to beat paying that amount sorry bud this is the way jura chooses to conduct there business your a computer engineer so surely you realize why they wont give this information out Thanks again Rick
this unit sells for 3 grand alone surely you took into consideration the cost of what would happen if you had to send it in for repair before you bought the unit Rick

OK above top, is your manual, below is your manufacturers link, use the Contact, and ask them for assistance, they will then either supply you with a manual, or simply inform you what to do.
On the following manual, on page 10 &11, there are instructions for resetting various functions of the machine:
http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/people/facilities/downloads/Coffee_Machine_Instructions.pdf
I hope this helps, since obtaining a factory manual would be most likely difficult and costly.
Reading the manual here:
http://www.uk.jura.com/home_uk_x/service_support/download_manual_jura_impressa_x9_english.pdf
Changing the presets is done via the steps in Paragrah 14.2 on page 11 of the pdf file above. If this is not what you were looking for; feel free to seek the advice of another Expert.
Kelly
Hi Tim,
I can see your frustration in trying to get an answer. I am not sure we at FixYa have a bonafide Jura equipment only Expert. This is most likely why your not getting any service manual information. Having said that... my goal here is not about the money but to maybe point you to someone who can answer your question and help you. After hours of searching; this is probably the best source your going to come across to ask your question:
http://www.gilkatho.com.au/Contact-Us
Since they are a dealer you may just get the standard "Send it to us or the closest service center for re-programming" answer. Occasionally though you get lucky.
I found this statement on line several times:
"it is a proprietary port and needs a special interface box."
Not what you wanted to hear but the best I can do for you. I sure would like to hear what the eventual remedy is.
Kelly
Tim,
From everything I have read over that last couple of days they use a PID to an RS485 interface and then connect to the RS232 connection of the X9 using proprietary software to communicate with the units firmware.
I am only assuming the interface is similar to this one:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q...#
Kelly
Hi again Tim. I know you have been sent versions of this manual repeatedly but.. for real check out page 28 of this link:
http://www.nl.jura.com/home_nl_x/service...
I note this is the J9.3 manual.
Still just trying to help... this may be old new to you by now. If so I think I have about reached the end of my rope here as far as finding a solution for you. Sure did give it a serious go though. Mainly because I wanted to know the answer myself.
It appears they charge a flat rate fee of $275.00 no matter what the problem or need for repairs of the machines are.
Would tweak me to have to pay someone that fee just to reprogram the keys!

I have the programming instructions for this machine.
actually, it's the complete operations manual including diagrams etc.
I felt kinda sorry for you, and even though this machine is outside my area of expertise, I thought I'd help you out anyway since this question has been hanging around for a while.
You can get the complete manual here:
http://dl.owneriq.net/f/f633f70f-1392-4fce-9606-4a55c237ee1f.pdf
It explains how to program all the buttons etc.
It even tells how to change the programming language in case someone changed the language on the machine!
Thank you for choosing FixYa.
Don't forget to close this thread as "solution accepted" if you don't require further assistance.
My apologies as I didn't know what your exact problem was at the time - I just knew you wanted to "program" it.
The only use I have found for that RS232 port was for the MDC interface (Multi Drop Coin) and the software that comes with that doesn't even change button assignments.
I now understand your frustration in attempting to locate the information you require.
After searching myself, I have a feeling that only jura techs may be able to perform these operations as it may require special hardware between the computer and the RS232 on the X9 which they are keeping a tight lid on, along with proprietary software that is useless without that hardware between it and the coffee maker. Since any information regarding the programming is useless without the hardware (I suspect) there is no reason to publish any information on it. Heck, it took me long enough to even find out about the MDC interface!
I hope you eventually find what you are looking for and I am sorry I was unable to locate it for you, but trust me, once I saw what it was you were looking for, I did give it my best effort !
My apologies on the part of FixYa, as you don't know how it works on our end...any "premium" question (amount award offered) that we can see, we aren't allowed to see other answers given until it goes back out into the wild as it were, so each agent is flying blind until you tell them, hey, 10 others gave me the same info...and by then it's too late and your frustration has again increased. Please forgive us, it's just the way the pecking order works in answering these things.

Here are the factory settings I found for a couple other Capresso Impressa machines:
Your machine instructions do not give the settings.
Filter: no
Hardiness setting: The IMPRESSA X9 is preset to 16° German hardness.
Aroma: strong
Temperature: high
Big cup: 240 ml, 8 oz
Coffee cup: 150 ml, 5 oz
Espresso cup: 60 ml, 2 oz
1-cup: 120 ml, 4 oz
2-cup: 240 ml, 8 oz
Water portion: 150 ml, 5oz
Steam: 60 sec
Time: not set
Unit on: not set
Auto off: 2 hours after last use
Language: English
The instructions for one of those stated that you could reset back to factory settings with the "reset" on the program screen.
I hope this works for you. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,
Handie Andie
Hi,
Apparently Jura doesn't want anyone working on their machines except their technicians...
I called the support number for Jura and they said they only do models other than X models.
But, they gave me the number for the facility which does offer customer support for them. The number is 440-808-0060
I'm sorry we couldn't help you anymore than that. Jura just doesn't provide information freely.
I hope your get some help at that number.
Handie Andie
Hi Tim,
I'm sorry to have to give you this bad information, but Jura protects their technical information to the hilt.
Here is a website forum composed of coffee gurus:http://www.coffeeforums.com/forum/coffee...
If you scroll down to the last 2 comments, a coffee machine parts man speaks about Jura's extreme secrecy on their product. I quote from him: "Since 1985, Jura has been using Saeco for manufacturing fully automatic
Jura models. Now they have designed their own brew group and suddenly
made it a 100% exclusive and will not give any service information, do
not train anyone, do not sell parts or use any outside service companies
other than their exclusive single workshop, located in Pennsylvania."
I'm sorry that we could not do any more for you.
Thanks,
Handie Andie
Hi,
Your question keeps coming up on our unsolved problems list.
I have spent much time on the net and several private phone calls to Jura and have been told repeatedly that they do not give out this information.
They factory train their techs in Europe and this information is private only to their techs.
I know you do not want to accept this, but you must take your coffeemaker to a Jura repair facility to have their "factory trained experts" reprogram it.
I fix everything myself and understand the frustration at not being able to DIY when you are a programmer yourself. That is just the way Jura works. The keep income coming in that way.......

It looks like there are two main generations of the X9 model. You can find the manual for both types at the manufacturer's website:
http://www.jura.com/home_x/service_support/manual_impressa_x9.htm
If the manual doesn't help, please reply with your generation or typ number and I can try to look into finding the steps for your specific model.
There is no information available for re-programing the keys, but you can get virtual support for your any problem and can download technical data for your product. For that you have to visit this web link : http://www.xpresscoffeeuk.co.uk/juracentre/tag/jura-x9-aluminum/.
1. Depending on what you want to program there are 11 programming steps for different functions.

Hello thedeccie,
I understand that you have bought an Jura X9 used and the keys are no longer programed to the original specs. I have found the owners manuals for the Generation 1 & 2 both show how to reporgam your machine. However, I could not find a code or sequence to revert bac to factory settings.
I hope that these will help you to program the machine to your liking. Here is the link to the user manuals and you can determine what generation you have and what language you want http://www.au.jura.com/home_x/service_support/manual_home/manual-machines/manual_impressa_x9.htm
Thank you for choosing FixYa.com
Justin
As far as I know that the only one that can access the RS-232 port and has the programs to reset the machine by that port is the factory/authorized service dealers. The program is not available to the public.
Justin
You have to send the unit back to a factory authorized service center inorder to do what you want.
Hey not a problem, it is rediculous that you can not type a couple of the buttons and make it go back to factory settings like most other items manufactured now days. Perhaps they did not think of that when they designed the machine and it became an after thought. No one knows but them.
Justin
I see that you are still looking for the serial port speed and commands. Again, I would suggest sending the unit back to Jura Capresso as this knowledge may not be readly available to give out to even if the information you want is known. Looks like you have no choice other than to send the machine in.

Hello thedeccie:
Yuo can download a manual for the X9 and the X7 free, at the link below:
http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/jura/coffeemaker_1_2_3_4.html

Usually answered in minutes!
The user manuals are on every website , including Jura's. If the programming of the keys were in their I would not have asked. The X7 and X9 are unlike the Z5/6, where many key functions can be programmed from the front, and is documented in the user manual. I need the programming, or technical service manual, which I can't seem to find.
Again, this is the same user guide/instruction manual I found the day I got the unit, and the same one the previous suggestion pointed me to. These DO NOT give the procedure to program the keys back to default, or any other configuration. I don't have any inclination to spend $200 to ship this back to Jura just to reprogram the keys. Someone must know how to do this. It is done during setup when purchased new during installation. Thanks,
Tim
Yes, I already know from the user guide that those are programmable from the front buttons, and I also know how to do all of those. What I need to know is how to get the top left dispense key back to the default "coffee," it is now "espresso," the top right key to the default "cappachino," it is now "left/right grinder," etc. I know this can be done, as it is changed from the manual now, but I don't know how as reprogramming these isn't in the user/instruction guide everyone has pointed me to, and I already had from the beginning. Thanks.
Tim
The one page "technical datasheet" isn't a "technical service" manual, and only gives power and capacity data. The other is the same user guide everyone has pointed me to, and I had from the beginning. Someone must know how to do this, as my X9 has had the keys reprogrammed.
Thanks,
Tim
This is the manual I have had from day one, and the previous 4 posts suggested. I have read, and understand section 14 backwards and forward, and there is nothing in there to show how to get the keys back to where they are supposed to be by default, and where they are shown in the document. I know how to do everything in section 14, and elsewhere in that document. Reprogramming what the keys do is not in the user manual anywhere. Someone must have a technical service manual, as there are no Jura service locations within 200 miles from me. It doesn't make sense for me to have to send this out for service just to get the keys back to "normal." Thanks,
Tim
It is a Generation 2, A7 model. The link on the page you posted is the same user manual I already have, and is of no use in solving this problem.
Thanks,
Tim
Again, this is just the same instruction guide everyone else has pointed me to, but it doesn't have SERVICE information in it. With this instruction guide, which I have already read and understand, it DOES NOT instruct how to get the keys back to where they are by default. For example, the top right key in the manual is supposed to be "Cappachino" on my X9 Gen 2 A7 model. Instead it is programmed to "Left/Right Bin" Selection. Nowhere I can find in the manual is it shown how to move the keys back to their proper, default, arrangement. If you can find it in the manual you have pointed me to let me know. I am a computer engineer, so if anyone has details of how to connect the RS-232 terminal to the back port, and program it from there I can handle making that work.
Thanks,
Tim
Are you sure you posted the link to the Service Manual, and not the Instruction Manual everyone has already sent me the link to? With the manual you linked to on page 15 I see:
The following settings can only be made by the JURA service technician:
Customised product programming. The standard products
can be replaced by:
2 espressi, 1 ristretto, 2 ristretti, small pot, macchiato, milky
coffee, hot water, steam, 2x
Grinder selection or rinse button (all buttons can be
arranged to preference)
Blocking products
Setting the filter capacity
Assigning code groups: Three code groups can be assigned.
The respective code groups correspond to different authorisations.
It can be defined, for example, that the programming
mode of the maintenance programmes is blocked by a code.
The procedure to do this is in the service manual, but not in the doc you provided the link. Also, I have the Jura X9 Generation 2, model A7, and not the Jura X9 Win.

All 9 previous answers give me links to the same document, WHICH DOESN'T have the procedure to reprogram the key positions back to normal. THIS IS NOT what I need. I need the SERVICE or TECHNICAL manual, not the instruction or user guide.

There must be someone with the service manual. It doesn't seem right that I should have to take the risk of mailing a unit weighing 60 pounds across teh country to the Jura repair facility just to get the key positions set back to normal. There is nothing wrong, or broken, on the X9. I just need the procedure to reset the keys through, I'm guessing, the serial service port. Is there anyone who can help with this?
Thanks,
Tim
Again, this is the same instruction manual available directly from the Jura site, and on page 12 says: 22. Adjustments by the Jura service technician
The following adjustments/alterations can only be done by a
Jura service technician.
? Re-arrangement of the key occupancy of the coffee
products
? Alteration of the cycles in ?pot of coffee? draw-off
? Filter capacity
The re-arrangement of the keys procedure is what I still need. Please let me know if you do. Thanks.
Tim
Nope, still the same instruction manual I have had since the beginning. This manual allows the adjustment of coffee strength, water, etc., but not what the keys dispense. 99% of the time I need just "Americano Coffee," and for some reason the previous owner wanted the keys to be everything except "Coffee." I just need my coffee. Thanks.

Every one of the previous 13 replies suggest looking at the same X9 instruction manual. Again, what I need is not in there. How to change the keys to what they dispense is what I need. Someone must know the sequence to do this. I already know how to hook a terminal to the back RS-232 port, so if you can just provide the serial port speed, and start/stop/parity bits. plus the commands I would use I can take it from there. Thanks.

Hi Kelly; thanks. Now that part is my area of expertise. I'm a computer engineer, so I understand serial protocols. It is a shame Jura keeps non-service things like rearranging keys secret. Why should anyone have to return the unit just to get the keys back to what you want. It doesn't make sense, but thanks for the info. I'm still hoping a ex-Jura person will be able to give what I'm sure is a simple set of commands to enter. Thanks again.

I have tried calling Jura many times. Their answer is always the same, "send it in and we will reset the keys for you." That means $200 shipping, plus whatever they charge, for something that should be able to be performed by anyone with a serial terminal.
The manual you linked is the same one all the 13 other responses have already provided, and the answer isn't in there.

15 replies, all pointing TO THE SAME MANUAL. The answer to the question of how to get the keys BACK to the ARRANGEMENT of what they DISPENSE isn't in there. If you want to point me to the "Instructions for Use" manual don't bother. Thanks,

It is the X9. The FixYa categories only had the X7, so I picked that. The X7 and X9 are almost identical in function, so the RS232 Serial commands should work on both.
The X9 Win is a different machine. This is a X9 Gen 2 model A7. Don't bother sending the pdf if they are anything available on jura.com or another generally available web site, because the answer isn't in there. If you have a manual that specifically tells how to change what each key dispenses, for example changing the top right key from "Left/Right Bin" back to "Cappachino" that's what I need. If it's just coffee strenght, temperature, etc., that doesn't do me any good.
Thanks,
Tim

Please stop posting links to the same document. Each of the now 15 postings reference the same X9 Instruction Manual. THE ANSWER IS NOT IN THERE. From the responses the answer requires specific service knowledge of this X9, not general usage instructions found in the manual everyone has linked to. My hope is someone that works on these X9's can give me the commands I can enter through the serial port on the back of the machine. I am a computer engineer who knows how serial protocols work, so i just need the commands and speed of the link. Thank you.

The solution is not in the instruction manual everyone points me to. Please read the question for my specific problem. Thank you.
Same manual as all the others. It isn't in there.
Nope, it's not... There is no way to change what the keys dispense from the front programming keys.

Yep, Pack up a 70 lb machine and pay $220 to ship it half way around the country, then pay Jura another $250 to change a "setting." Three week turnaround. Sounds right; not.
It will cost $220 to ship this 70 lb unit half way across the US, then another $250 for Jura to change the "setting." Three week turnaround. It boggles the mind how wrong this is.
Excellent; thanks. I have been trying to get them to give me something more than "send it back to get the keys set back to default." The weeks it would take, plus over $500 in shipping and service fees, doesn't seem right just to change a "setting." Like I said I am a computer engineer, so if I can just get the commands, and the serial terminal speed, I would be all set. I hope you have better luck than me. Thank much.
Tim
Thanks much. I can't believe this is so difficult. Looks like I'll have to reverse engineer something.
Thanks Jim, but I am familiar with this manual. It doesn't show how to get the arrangement of the keys back to default. By everything I have read, and others have sent, the key associations can only be reset by the serial port on the back of the X9. Please let me know if you can find this information. Thank you.
Yes, I'm a computer engineer, and tried all the permutations I could think of. I do get unittelligable characters with various speeds, parity, and stop bits, so I know the cabling is correct. There are long responses to a carrage return, so something in the protocol must be setup wrong. I don't know how to post a picture here, as this interface (fixya) doesn't give an upload option. Thanks,
Tim
Again, please. The X7 instruction manual does not contain this information. Links to this same manual will not help. I need the serial programming commands for a terminal plugged in the back. If the manual you point me to doesn't contain this information, it is not the correct one. Thanks,
Tim
Thanks, but it says "error 404 - page not found." Can you pull down the file (english preferred), and post it somewhere? Thanks again.
