Whirlpool ET21DKXDW03 ,Top Freezer Freezer is cold, a little frost, Fan is running...fridge is not cold enough. ..condenser area clean, condenser fan motor is running, there are 2 holes that the cold air travels to fridge from freezer. There was a build up of frost in freezer and ice in the holes. I defrosted but still fridge is not cold enough and tomatoes get "fuzzy" ! :-)
I purchased MODEL# ET1PHKXPQ(165423) TWO WEEKS AGO. Within the last cuple days the same problem developed. The back of the freezer (center and vent filled with ice and fridge will not stay below 50 degrees.
I removed items from freezer, thought maybe vents covered, but temp problem persists in fridge.
Any solutions? I was thinking I unplug, allow to sit for a day, allow ice to disapate, and try again?I purchased MODEL# ET1PHKXPQ(165423) TWO WEEKS AGO. Too much ice bulid up will stop enough cold air being blown into the fridge.Try turning it off letting all ice melt then turn it back on again and set thermostat at a lower temp. There may be ice you can't see.

All your cold air for the fridges comes from your freezer compartment. If you are haveing ice build up in the freezer comparment there may be an issue with your defrost circuit.
While the unit is in a cooling mode open the freezer door and listen to for the fan running in the freezer this is the evaporator fan that circulates the cold air to your fridge compartment if it is not running replace it.
If it does run try and check your defrost circuit and make sure the unit goes into the defrosat cycle
Refrigerator or freezer is not cold enough * Check the temperature setting * Assure that there is enough room for air flow in the refrigerator or freezer * Check for air flow restrictions in vents * Test the temperature control * Clean the condensor coils * Check the door seals * Test the door switch * Test defrost heater * Test defrost timer * Test evaporator fan * Check for a clogged drain tube * Check for refrigerant leak
Is there a lot of frost accumulation on the back wall of the freezer section. If there is your auto defrost has a proble. All inexpensive repairs. Is the evap fan running in the freezer. You should be able to hear this when you open the freezer door. If you do not hear the fan you need a new evap fan. This is what circultes the air for proper cooling.
It appears you need to get the cold distributed from the freezer section to the frig section. This can only be accomplished by a fan that forces the cold air throught openings between both sections. Since the freezer in at the bottom, cold air cannot go upward, thereforethe fan. Chech that the interior fan (in the freezer section) is running. Check that the air openings between the sections are not blocked. Finally, if all looks good, then maybe the compressor system is slowly failing and only making enough cold for the freezer, but not enough to be circulated. Goodluck, Macgivor
checklist: freezer fan running, compressor fan running, compressor running, any frost buildup on back wall of freezer. you may have to take a rag and touch the compressor to feel if its vibrating to see if its running unless you can hear it. please reply
remove the back wall leave the unit to run half hour open and see if coil have frost all the way from the top of the coil to the bottom if the coil is full you have adefrost problem could be your timer defrost thermostart or heater
check to see if the compressor is running, if not you may need a start kit, (relay, overload) If the compressor is running take the back freezer panel off and check to see if there is a frost pattern, might be out of gas if frost pattern has receeded
check if you have frost build up at the back side of the freezer section.
if you do, then it is a defrosting problem.
you could have a problem with the defrost timer, the defrost heater , or the bi-metal.
if there is no frost accumulation, that would be something more and you have to elaborate on what you observe with the unit to help me further troubleshoot your unit.
Hello Scott, remove the food from the freezer side and remove the rear freezer panel. You will see a coil and it should be completely frosted over. If not then you have a sealed system issue. If it is froze solid in frost where you cannot even see the coil, then you have a defrost issue. You should have a little frost on all the coil, the defrost is what clears the frost so the evap fan motor can circulate the air thru out the unit. If frost is good, push the light door switch to start the fan. If it isn't running check for 120 volts. If it has voltage, but not running, replace the motor. Hope this helps.
