Message light will not go off even having erased all messages on handset

If the message light on the Telstra cordless handset 1 is flashing, indicating a new message, but the message light on handset 2 does not flash even when it's on the cradle, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check message notification settings: Make sure that the message notification settings on both handsets are properly configured. Refer to the user manual or the settings menu on the handsets to adjust the message notification settings. Ensure that the notification is enabled for both handsets.
2. Reset the handsets: Try resetting both handsets to their default settings. This can be done by removing the batteries from the handsets, unplugging the base station, and leaving them disconnected for a few minutes. Then, reinsert the batteries and plug in the base station. Allow the handsets to reconnect to the base and check if the message light on both handsets functions properly.

Do you want to erase all messages? Are you looking at the handset, the base or are you calling the KX-TG885SK remotely?

1) At the base, press Erase during playback of a message to delete the current message. To erase all messages from the base, press Erase twice when the phone system is in standby mode (no active calls/incoming calls).

2) From a handset, use the menu to access the Answering Device sub menu and choose play new message or play all messages. (Alternatively, press Menu # 3 2 3 to play new messages or Menu # 3 2 4 to play all messages.) During playback of a message, press * 4 or pause the message. After pausing the message, highlight Erase and press Select. Confirm this. To erase all messages, choose Erase All messages (Menu # 3 2 5) and follow the prompts to confirm (highlight Yes and press Select). You can also press * 5 to erase all messages from the Answering Device sub menu.

3) During a remote call, *4 and * 5 work as above when using the handset.

You have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system records messages when people call while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.

Do you have any voicemails that you have not erased? Have you tried deleting your recent call list or caller id? This is a message indicator. If you go into your menu, you can turn message indication off

Deleting an incoming message

From the base
Press (erase)f during message playback.
• The current message is deleted.

From the handset
During message playback, press OK
to enter the options menu.
Select DELETE. Press OK.
• The current message is deleted

Deleting all old incoming messages

From the base
Press and hold (erase) during standby.
• All old messages are permanently deleted.

From the handset
Press (menu)
Select ANSWER MACHINE >
DELETE ALL. Press OK.
• The handset displays a confirmation
request.
Press OK to confirm.
• All old messages are permanently
deleted.

Note
Unread message(s) cannot be deleted,
and deleted message(s) cannot be
recovered.

I resolved the problem but I'm not 100% sure of how I did it. If it happens again I'll try it again. I left the answering machine OFF so the Voice Mail would take any messages. A friend phoned and left a message in the VOICE MAIL, I knew this because of the broken dial tone when I went to make a call. When I erased his message the 'New Voice Message' displayed on the handset disappeared. I figure a previous caller hung up just after the voice mail picked up. It was not long enough so it did not register in the voice mail but somehow registered on the GE phone. Since there wasn't anything registered in the VOICE MAIL to erase the message was 'stuck' on the handset display. As soon as there was a message registered in the VOICE MAIL that could be erased it also cleared the message on the handset.

As i mentioned, if it happens again I'll try it to see if it works, until then I am not going to tempt fate.

It's not permanent, you just have to know how to turn it off :-)

When the phone is idle, the light is lit red and a 7636 will
say Message Waiting. At each phone, do not pick up the handset, but press MESSAGE. Your display will have who left the message on the top line and .EXIT CLEAR under soft keys 2 and 3.

Guess what :-) Press CLEAR and the message is erased. When the queue is empty, the light will go out.

Erasing Messages
You may erase messages in the following three ways:
To erase a message while it is playing
1. Press and release PLAY/STOP button.
2. Press the review and skip buttons to select and play the message you want to erase.
3. Press the delete button, the current message is erased, and the next message plays.
To erase all previously played Messages in a mailbox
1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in talk mode)
2. Press and hold the delete button until "ALL OLD MESSAGES ERASED" is announced.
To erase a message from the handset :
1. Press the flash/answerer button on the handset
2. Press the play/stop (key 2) on the handset.
3. Press the erase (key 0) on the handset to erase a message during playback.
NOTE: Erased messages cannot be restored.

I'm having the same problem, too. However, the beeping continues and continues. Even when it stops, the light comes back on. Any other thoughts?

Blinded by the light

I had this problem and finally found a number for Eschelon telecom (763 745 8000). This is what they had me do. Press the Speaker button and then enter 7732. This cleared the blinking light and inmail message. This happens when you receive an internal call and someone leaves you a message to call them back. Still can't figure out how to listen to the message. But this cleared the blinking light.
