SOURCE: How will I change the username and the password of

On your computer (the one connected to the router) open in browser http://192.168.1.1 and log into router's configuration page ... there on the "wireless" section you will find "Wireless security" ... there you can set up the password.
If you don't have access to the configuration page or you have problems setting up the password, you can always reset the router to it's factory settings. To do so you have to find a slightly hidden reset button on your router and push it (with a needle or something).
For more details read the manual at: http://homedownloads.cisco.com/downloads/userguide/E1000_V10_UG_USA_NC-WEB.pdf
have fun ;)

Here is the user manual for your router. It contains complete setup instructions. If you ran the CD that came with the router, you will need to reset the router for the manual to be of any use. To reset the router, press in the reset button on the back of the router untill the lights on the front flash.

How do I put a password on my wi fi signal

Figure out what the IP address of your router is and type it into your browser's URL field. If you don't know what the IP address is, connect your computer to the router and do the following. Hopefully you have a windows machine you can connect.

1. Start -> Control Panel
2. Go to "Network Connections" (or i the new XP Category View it's "Network and Internet Connections" and then "Network Connections"
3. Find your active connection - most likely "Local Area Connection" or "Wireless Network Connection"
4. Right click on the connection and choose "Status"
5. Go to the "Support" Tab.
6. Look at the Default Gateway entry, this is in most cases the IP address to your router. (Pretty good chance it'll be something like 192.168.x.x)

Once you know your router's IP address, type it into your internet browser's address field. Most likely your router will prompt you for a username & password - refer to your router's manual for the correct combination. Try using "password" or "administrator" for the password if you don't know (yes, often those really are the default passwords) - the username will often be blank or "admin" or "administrator". As I said, check the docs that came with the router or check the manufacturer's website.

Then navigate to the security settings, choose a security type(WPA 2 is the most secure, WEP is easily bruteforced by someone who knows what they are doing), and choose a passcode. Write this down, do not forget it. If you forget it.

I CANT ACCES TO THE BELKIN PAGE , I NEED SECURITY IN MY ROUTER

First you need to know the access ADMIN Username and Password for your router?
If you have the access then you can configure your router manually.

Identify what IP address of your gateway.
>Start>CMD>IPCONFIG
(check what IP address you have in gateway. use that ip address to access your router)
example.
>launch internet explorer then type the IP address into the address bar.

you will be redirected to a page will it asked for username and password.
then you need to enter the information.
if you dont know the admin un and pw contact your ISP.
but most of the default UN and PW is
Username: admin
Password: admin

once you able to get into the GUI of your router then go to configuration for the PW to lock your network.

I have a Netgearr WGR614v8 and i dont know how to log onto it in linux, i know i can do it through a browser but im new at this. think you could help a newb? :\

First, you need to make sure that you are connected to the router via an ethernet cable. Next, you need to open the router configuration page using a web browser (I assume you have FireFox). In order to find out what address you need to type into the browser's address bar, you need to open Terminal and type "ifconfig" without the quotations. This will show you your IP address information. Note down the Gateway address and type that onto your browser. It is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Next it will ask for the username and password. Default log in information should be : Username: admin Password: password
Hope this helps!

No more details; I just want to know how to do it.

Well, most problem with routers you can fix by doing a hard reset and then rebuilding your settings, there is a pin sized hole on the back of the router, stick a pin down this hole and hold it down for 5 to 10 seconds, from there wait another 10 seconds and go into your browser and type the IP address of the router, if you dont know what this is type 192.168.1.1 into the browser address bar, If it asks you for a username and password try admin for both or admin for just pass word and leave the username part blank, from there just set the options you want set,

I am attempting to lock my network connection.i have seen if you put the Ip address into the web browser it brings up instructions.each time i type in my ip address it asks for an username and password i...

Then google your router. if you had a belkin you would search for "belkin router setup"
this will tell you the default username and password, you can then set your wireless security password (choose WPA2)
If you cant find what you need, write back with your routers make and model

Can't find wep key or router username or password

Since you want to access the router setup page and get the wireelss security for your laptop you can try this:
Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.1.1.
You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is blank, and the password is admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

If the default password didn't work you need to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 15 seconds so it will be back to its default settings with default password which is admin.

But if you successfully log in to the router page just go to the Wireless tab and there you can find all the wireless settings of your router including the wireless security key...
