Hello- my P95 sustain pedal does not work when plugged in but the sustain works when you disconnect the cord from the back of the keyborad

Sustain pedal is nothing but a calling bell switch try to connect with a fresh pin with some two core wire/or change the connecting pin

This is confusing... you say "the sustain works when you disconnect the cord"? How can that happen? and doesn't work when it is plugged in.

MOST sustain pedal problems are due to people using a different pedal than the keyboard is designed to use. It is very common that someone tries to use a Roland sustain pedal on a Yamaha and oof course it doesn't work because the Roland pedal is normally closed and Yamaha usually requires a normally open contact.

A FEW keyboards now check the state of the pedal input when power is first turned on and configure the pedal polarity accordingly. For these keyboards, make sure the pedal is plugged in before power is turned on.

    It doesn't seem to make sense, but I've had the same problem. The pedal won't work when plugged in, but as soon as the cable is unplugged, the sustain comes on permanently. Then if you cycle it back off and on, the sustain will be off. The contact in the pedal appears to be in good order. I dont know if it's a keyboard or pedal problem, but the keyboard is brand new

    We are having the same problem. Keyboard sustains constantly without pedal. Plugging pedal in cancel the sustain. This is definitely a keyboard problem.

Sustain pedal not working on Yamaha P95--no sustain at all. Tried a couple of pedals w/ same result. Also did hard reset--nothing.

Buy sustain pedal made for CASIO or switable model.
Pedal for Yamaha or Roland will work in reverse on a Casio.

Sustain pedal does not work
Yamaha FC4 and FC5 sustain pedals are normally closed, sorry Fred. Roland is opposite. I suspect the P120 just needs to be reinitialized. Hold down top white key (C) while turning on power. Wait 3 seconds and then release white key. Should now be reset to factory spec. Always plug the pedal in before you turn it on. If it still doesn't work check it with a meter.

I plugged a sustain pedal from my Yamaha DX7 on the dumper pedal jack but it works opposite as it should (by pressing the pedal sound cancels as i release the keys; when pedal runs completely free sounds...
every sustain pedal got different polarity.. normally just go to global setting on your keyboard and change damper polarity setting to plus or minus (select which one work with your sustain padle).

When I plug the fc-5 pedal into a P95 piano, sustain in ON (either I press the foot switch or not) and when I unplug it, sustain goes off, and sometimes it is vice versa, pressing the switch doesn't...
Sounds like a loose wire to me (because the problem isn't consistent) the most likely suspect is the jack plug. Unscrew the body of the plug and check that the two wires are firmly soldered to the terminals inside.

If they're OK you can pop the cover off the footswitch and check that end. As far as I recall that end of the cable goes straight to a PCB (printed circuit board) so be very careful if you need to solder anything. If the solder around the wire connection is cracked, that's a dry joint and can be fixed with a small blob of solder carefully applied.

If all the cable connections are fine there's a problem with the PCB or the micro-switch mounted on it.

Roland requires a pedal that is normally closed, open sustains. MOST pedals work the opposite. SOME pedals you can open and rewire... but not all can be.

How do you make the sustain pedal work correctly? It now works in reverse and none of the pedal options will correct the problem.
If you are not using the original pedal it means that your pedal is wired backwards. You can try disassembling the pedal or the plug on the cord and reversing the wiring of the connections to see if that helps. Example if the shield of the cable is wired to the shaft of the plug, try disconnecting the wiring to the shaft and tip and wire the shield to tip etc.

Sustain pedal not working on my Yamaha P-90
What I figured out is that when i turn on the keyboard, if i hold down the pedal by accident, it will work in reverse. I dont know if this is what you mean. If it is, just dont touch the pedal when you turn it on. If it isn't, try to return the pedal. I dropped one, it had this problem, and they gave me a new one. Your cord for it might have been bent (?). Also, turn the keyboard on with the pedal already plugged in. It's not made to be plugged in while it's on. Hope this helps. - Matthew

Sustain Pedal Opposite Effect
I found that if I plug in the sustain pedal BEFORE turning the power on, it works fine. If I plug in the sustain pedal AFTER turning the power on, then it works in the opposite way. Probably just the design. So I would try playing with that before doing anything drastic.
