How to Install an Operating System on an External USB Hard Drive:

You may have an external hard drive you want to use for more than just document backup.
In this situation, you can install an operating system onto your external hard drive. By doing so, you will be able to run your external hard drive as a fully functional operating system.
If your primary hard drive ever crashes, you will have a backup option unavailable to those who simply use their external hard drives as file and document backup.

1) Plug your external Hard Drive into your Computer using the USB cable. Insert the installation disk for your Operating System into the CD/DVD Drive. Turn on or restart your Computer.

2) Boot from the installation disk. You may have to press a key once prompted to boot from the installation disk.

3) Accept the license terms and conditions. Read through these carefully if you wish to understand your legal rights as a user. If you disagree with these terms and conditions, you may want to purchase a different Operating System.

4) Choose your destination drive. Your external Hard Drive will likely be the E: or F: drive. By default, the C: will represent your main Hard Drive and the D: will usually represent your CD/DVD Drive.

5) Begin the installation. Your external Hard Drive will install the Operating System. You will now be able to run that Operating System off of your external hard drive.

Hope this helps.

Every tym i insert my pendrive it says insert disk into the drive...???removable disk appears..but it doesnt opns...is there any solution...plz do help me

Assumption 1
Flash drive is damaged, the normal operating system.
Solution
If the flash drive is detected (eg; detected the flash drive in drive G), but it says "insert the disk into the drive ..."
1. Download software JetFlash Online Recovery (open link - select type software - select OS Windows - select language English - select product JetFlash All Series - Download).
2. Insert the flash drive
3. Open file OnLineRecovery.exe - Select the volume of the device - Repair the drive & keep data existed - START. If it fails, select Repair the drive & erase all data - START.

If the flash drive is not detected (not detected as drive G),
the above solution can not be used.

Assumption 2
Normal flash drive, the operating sytem is corrupt
Solution
Flash drives do not require drivers (plug and play). Because flash drives plug and play, it should be, when the flash drive inserted detects the operating system without installing drivers. But, if the operating system does not detect, the possibility of operating systems corupt. The cause is a virus corrupt your operating system.

1. Download and install anti-virus Avira or AVG (free).
2. Update anti-virus
3. Scan your computer.
4. Repair the operating system.
5. If no virus is detected, the possibility of operating system is corrupt.

I hope this information helps.

How to solve boot failture.

Boot failure will be displayed if the computer cannot find the operating system on a bootable device.
Your hard drive could be defective or the computer bios is not setup to locate the drive due to lost information from a possible dead backup battery or a power surge. To resolve the problem you need to find out what type of hard drive you have for example MFM, RLL, SCSI, IDE, ATA, PATA, Enhanced IDE or SATA. With a SATA drive, you do not have to worry about jumper settings, which are the newest of the hard drive interfaces. You need to start your computer and read the system prompts to enter the set up bios (example: Press Del to enter System Bios). Once you are in the system bios you need to select boot devices. Make sure the drive with your operating system is selected in the boot devices. If this will not work then you may need to reinstall the Operating System. I would buy a new drive if you can afford it and install the operating on the new drive so you may be able to recover some of the data. If you do not care about the data you can reinstall the Operating System on the current drive. If your drive is not recognized during the installation then the drive is most likely bad. If you reinstall the Operating System on the new drive then you can install the current drive as a second drive to recover previous data. If you do not have a SATA drive you will need to change the jumper settings to operate as a slave drive. If the data from the old drive is not accessible when install with the correct jumper setting then the drive will need to be repaired or discarded.

The bios says operating system not found on my acer aspire 5536g...help please?

Probably the hard drive..Check power and system board connector. Boot to command prompt and type "c:"
If you cannot read the drive it is probably the drive.
Boot to setup..if your drive is listed" Drive 0" You can probable reload the operating system.

Hi when I turn on my fujitsu amilo pro v2055 it says operating software not found. Can anybody help

The operating system software is stored on the hard disk. The computer cannot detect the hard drive and therefore cannot load the operating system. It could be that it only needs reseating to get it operating again, if that does not work it could be a faulty disk drive or a faulty disk controller.
To test if the hard drive is OK, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug this adapter and drive into a working computer's USB port. If this computer see this as an external hard drive and you can view the contents of this drive, then it is OK. If you cannot see this drive then it is faulty.
You need to replace the hard drive in your computer and install Windows again to get an operating computer again.

Transfer operating system to new hard drive

You can't transfer an operating system to a new hard drive, you must install it. When you install an operating system, it makes specific files depending on all of your hardware, including your hard drive. Your restore disks should be fine to reinstall Windows on your new hard drive. Just use a backup program to backup all of the data you want to keep since it won't be there on your new drive. Good luck.
