That round mushy metal gasket is called an exhaust donut gasket. You should replace it as it might be deformed now and not seal. Yes you need to use the spring loaded bolts. They are used so that the exhaust system can flex when you accelerate and not lose its seal.

1999 suzuki grand vitara airbag

you have 3 choices. (2 stated, in operators guide , in glove box)
1: ignore, it, and be unprotected. ( or worse , read about it))
2: Get the car serviced.
3: DIY, (iffy at best) but you can in fact read the FSM or read the words
in the alldata.com web site. login and read. under SRS air bags.
It states to, connect the air bag scan tool, and lots of tests using other toots.
$4 day view too.

Look in your owner's manual. I think you have put the A/T switch into the
towing or hill climbing mode as opposed to the street or gas saving mode.

Why does my ten year old suzuki grand vitara 2.00 diesel auto overheat going up a long steep hill. it has just done 400 miles to nottingham and back with no trouble.

Your problem could be anything from Dirty air filter/Loose fanbelt/Thermostat sticking/Full throttle over fueling on pump/or air in Water system (somecars have to be bleed thats removing air from radiator and engine) check your book for that.
