there might be no connection from your cd-room slot.Pull out your cd-room and clean it, use a paint brush or a used toothbrush to get rid of the dust. After that, return your cd-room to its normal position. If still not working, replace a new cd-room.Hope this may help you.

I sugest you install SP3 because it has fixes some security bugs in Windows XP.
SP3 is very large, you maybe able to get your computer savy friends or friendly computer shop to help you, they most likely have SP3 on a CD.

providing that you have enough room on the harddrive all you should have to do is insert the cd and turn off the computer and restart than it will say boot from cd than it will say boot from cd press any key than after this it should start the examining process and after this it will ask you if you want to install or upgrade or repair say either upgrade or install and go from their.
If it shows the partition with the current version on it you can delete the partition or create a new partition so this is up to you but be advised if you delete the partition all data (will) be lost ok ? and you will have to create a partition DONT FORGET THIS STEP IF YOU DECIDE TO DELETE THE PARTITION OK? BUT IF if no partition is shown just continue with the installation and the rest is very self explanitory ok? i hope this helped out a lot
